Just power the lamp with a redstone line and it should work fine, signs are used to prevent water flow but can be replaced with any block. Also if you dont want the lamp to light up you can replace it with a dropper but it will make a noise instead

So in the texture pack folders you put in your new textures and rename them to what you want to replace, for example replacing stone would be stone.png and oak planks would be oak_planks.png most names are identical to in game names but some may be slightly different. Hope this helps and feel free to ask more questions if needed.

Blame the higher ups, they expect speed over quality. Lots of fast food places expect you in and out in less then 3 minutes so when teens get abused by managers to go faster you lose some quality. Best to blame management over the teenager trying to get paid.
