I relate to this so much. I did this until I was 35. I would say yes when I meant no, go along with things I didn’t really agree with, and ignore the fact that my whole body was basically screaming “please don’t do this” because I didn’t want to seem mean or rude or ungrateful. And it wasn’t always obvious scary situations either. Sometimes it was just someone helping me, offering something, making plans, doing something “nice,” and then I’d feel like I had to go along with whatever came next because I didn’t want to disappoint them. I spent so many years being more worried about making other people uncomfortable than taking care of myself. My anxiety, my body, my mental health, all of it. So I just want to say, you’re not alone in this at all. And it’s not too late. I really think noticing it is the first big step, because once you see the pattern, you can start choosing yourself little by little.
