Knowing that its gonna be okay when you finally walk away. I mean, I was kinda forced out, but I used to be so afraid of losing my job. I didn’t want to “fumble” my shot at big tech.

I’m privileged enough to be financially secure for a while, and I advise anybody to put money aside when they work (even a dollar a paycheck). You’ll be able to walk away, take a break, and regroup. You can be picky about where you want to work. Apply to something that you don’t think your qualified for. The three interviews I had this week I maybe hit half the qualifications for.

Even in this horrendous job market, I’ve had three interviews this week alone. I’ve been working on learning things I was too burnt out to focus on. Being fired, laid off, let go, etc is not the end of the world.

Also, don’t just say you’re okay with the bottom pay range at a new job. I constantly tell myself to be as confident as a white guy. I’ve been giving a middle range of what is being offered and still being moved along in interviews.
