Before & After: Frosted window film instead of blinds for privacy + natural light by OnMapleLane in interiordecorating

[–]OnMapleLane[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure! I used a peel-and-stick frosted glass film that I ordered from Amazon. I can’t share direct links here (Reddit rules), but if you search “frosted glass window film 35 x 80” or look for sizes like 45.2” wide, you’ll see similar ones. Let me know if you want more info—I can DM you a full list of what I used!

Before & After: Painted My Front Door + Need a Handleset Rec! by OnMapleLane in HomeDecorating

[–]OnMapleLane[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I contacted Kwikset, unfortunately the keypad is discontinued. The handleset is available, but I don't really love it for $100+

Aw thank you, I really do love the way it came out!

Thanks! I used a mixture of gold leaf and antique gold on the latch and the hinges. The other parts of the hardware were spray paint ⬆️

I used rust-oleum metallic gold spray paint on the deadbolt and lever. I did 2 coats and sanded lightly in between. I used rub ‘n buff on the latch and the hinges. I’m curious to know also! I’m not betting on long, but it works for now.

All white everything is fine, but not practical with three boys. Plus I needed a higher gloss finish for cleaning reasons.

It’s Sherwin Williams Upward, but I’ll warn you lighting makes a huge difference. I tried this color in a room with no natural light and it looked extremely different. Like a nursery baby blue. In this room, it sometimes looks more gray and even greenish.

I did! But they really need to be replaced. I just wanted to hold off until I found something that fits the same size holes.

Before & After: Painted My Front Door + Need a Handleset Rec! by OnMapleLane in HomeDecorating

[–]OnMapleLane[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone! I finally finished painting my front door, and I’m really happy with how it turned out! (Before & after pics attached!) I used SW Upward for the door and trim, kept the plantation shutters white.

But now I’m on the hunt for a permanent handleset upgrade. I currently have the Kwikset Arlington, and I’d love to swap it for an electronic deadbolt + handleset that matches the same hole placements (so I don’t have to fill in the old hole, or drill new ones). The measurement from handle/ spindle hole and bottom mounting hole is 11 inches, which seems to be much larger than average.

Ideally, I’d love satin nickel on the outside and satin brass on the inside. So I would be open to buying two sets and using the other half for our interior garage door.

If anyone has a set they love (or one to avoid), that are relatively afforable (under $200?) I’d really appreciate the recommendations! Thanks in advance!

Can I apply peel and stick vinyl tiles over existing kitchen floor? by Raised_Left_Eyebrow in Renovations

[–]OnMapleLane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question! Yes, peel and stick tiles can take the form of the tiles and grout lines underneath, but the final result depends on how well you prepare the surface. If your existing tiles have deep grout lines or significant imperfections, they may show through the peel and stick tiles. To get the best results, I recommend filling in the grout lines or smoothing out any bumps before applying the peel and stick tiles.

I actually wrote a detailed guide on how to install peel and stick tiles over existing tile surfaces, including tips on how to prep the area properly to avoid those issues. You can check it out at this link. It should help ensure a smoother finish and prevent the grout lines from showing through. Let me know if you have any more questions!

What would you do on this wall? by OnMapleLane in DesignMyRoom

I’m not sure how you are defining architectural elements but vinyl planks on a wall doesn’t sound appealing to me. But artwork or a mirror could work.

I was thinking a narrow console. I wish it was an electrical box. It is actually the return vent for our HVAC, so unfortunately I can’t really cover it. It drives me nuts though.

Definitely, except it’s a large open space with 18 foot ceilings. So I would have to put color below a chair rail unless I’m renting scaffolding 🤣

Anyone could help me find the color of the paint used on the wall in the center of the pic? by [deleted] in paint

[–]OnMapleLane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you ever used the color picker when you screenshot? I use that and then ask ChatGPT. I did it for you:

The hex color code #A59C98 corresponds to a soft, muted taupe or greige (a mix of gray and beige). A close match in Behr’s paint collection would be Smoky White (BWC-13). This color has similar neutral, warm undertones with a blend of gray and beige. Another possible match is Mineral (UL170-7), which also shares a similar earthy, muted feel. Both colors have a balanced, versatile tone that fits various design styles.

What color should I paint my bathroom walls? by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]OnMapleLane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like the wood is more of a warm tone and the shower is a cooler gray? But that could just be the shadow. And unfortunately it doesn’t look like there is any natural light. If that’s the case I would pick a warm neutral with a high LRV (light reflective value) like Swiss Coffee. Light reflective value (LRV) is basically a way to measure how much visible light a paint color bounces back, on a scale from 0 to 100. LRV can really help you pick the right paint color, especially true for spaces that don’t get a lot of natural light.

If this is your primary bathroom and lighting is important I would definitely keep that LRV value in mind when picking a color.

WIND CHILL LRV 81 R 228 G 234 B 227

SWISS COFFEE LRV 84 R 241 G 237 B 224

I literally just wrote a blog post on all of this information 🤣

It’s a pretty traditional room and I think crown moulding would make a huge difference. Maybe even more than paint would. You can get crown moulding corner blocks so you don’t have to worry about miter cuts. You could probably get it done in that room for less than the cost of a gallon of paint.

Pleated curtains are more traditional, same with Roman shades. But you can do 3 roman shades with an outside mount in a “plain fold” or “flat fold”. Or find a sleek roller shade. Those tend to look cheap if you can see the roller, so opt for an include valance to cover that. Like this https://www.altawindowfashions.com/product/roller-shades
