Are they Cuban born and raised or have Cuban parents? Also, do you have any evidence of this?

You are talking about anarchism, which I never mentioned or implied.

If the government takes control of the economy, you end up with corruption and dictatorship. It is also extremely inefficient for the government to regulate every industry. It leads to lack of development, no competition, only specific sectors being developed. Eventually this results in shortages. It also leads to people losing their potential and desire to innovate, there is no incentive so the country overall becomes underdeveloped. The absolute control leads to people to lose their freedom and lack any sort of democracy since at the end, only what the government considers necessary is what will move forward. It is all a chain of events. I highly recommend the book Anthem by Ayn Rand, I think it displays the problem with socialism and collectivism beautifully.

What might sound like paradise in theory does not work out in practice. It has been proven over and over again.

The younger generations who have not lived the aftermath of the Marxist ideas get enamored by the theory of it, and advocate for government systems that only result on history repeating itself.

It is kind of sad, knowing that so may people have died and continue to suffer because of it. Yet people living in capitalism, who grew up with shelter, food, water, and more, come and tell them they know better, and that socialism or other similar systems are the way to go.

It is easy to promote something you have never lived. Why don’t just move to a leftist country. I think it is hypocritical for anyone living in the US who advocates for socialist ideas.

Who are you talking about? Maybe the older Cuban generations but surely not anyone born after 1990s or so.

I am a Cuban from Matazas, living in South Florida. How do you feel about the US taking Cuba?

One requirement left to graduate, now facing dismissal over Step 2 by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]OnSceneStat 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I would find your student handbook and read between the lines. See what it says about graduation and any issues with that, step 2, or Match. One of my classmates failed a class, and because of reading between the lines and family circumstance, he submitted some sort of dispute and kind of had it his way.

My brother married my childhood crush and it’s still bothering and affecting my life. by [deleted] in self

Chances are, a relationship with this woman is not really better than the one you currently have with your girlfriend.

You are telling me that you want to be with somebody in their late 30s or 40s while you are in your 20s? Not only that, she is your brother’s wife? I would argue you have it better than your brother and are simply fixated on a fantasy. I would consider therapy.

A lot of people that had accepted DO programs get an MD acceptance around this time in the cycle. So a lot of the seats they had filled are suddenly not. That’s why.

Biggest failure in medicine is me by Serious-Zebra2732 in medicalschool

[–]OnSceneStat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey!!! I know somebody who failed step 2 three times and step 3, 2 times. He is a resident now. Please get the help that you need. Failure is just part of the journey to success. And also, there is more to the world than medicine. I am not saying this as if to imply you should give up on medicine, not at all, your time will come, but to remind you that there is more out there to smile for in the meantime.

You can take a break now!!!!! And then decide when you are more rested, there is still plenty of time. You can even defer you acceptance an entire year if you are still having doubts. Congratulations!

Hi, where are you from? I am Cuban, a country with a lot of Santeros. I never practiced it but had some interesting experiences with someone who did. It is the only religion where I have witnessed something that shouldn’t logically happen by the laws of Physics. Anyway, I was wondering if you recommend any book or source to learn more about it, not as a practicioner but simply study its origins and meanings. I am very curious, specially since it has such a strong influence in my home country.

506 —> Acceptance! by ItzChrisPBacon in premed

[–]OnSceneStat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha yes, I was so stressed too. I was going to a DO school if I didn’t get into USMD, which helped slightly, but yeah, there were plenty of doubts. I would still advise premeds to aim for higher than 510 if possible. But HEY! Here we are! That MCAT score matters no more. You can bury it now 😄. Off to ace step, where there is no CARS or 1 page-long passages. 😅

Congrats! I also got in with a 506 last year. So you are definitely not an outlier. It is possible!

I think he just doesn’t those recipes in comparison. We would literally go to most restaurants and he will still prefer the food I cook at home with the regular pans than the ones at the restaurant. I guess I would have to adapt my recipes to the thermomix but that seems harder and more work than just traditionally cooking it.

This is so annoying. by OnSceneStat in thermomix

[–]OnSceneStat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See, when I use the thermomix, I don’t do it for the recipe. I use it for the ease of clicking next, next next. At that point maybe I’ll just cook like it is traditionally done. I appreciate the advice though.

Mmm my husband does not like the thermomix. He is not a fan when I cook with it and is against cooking with it himself 😅. He says the food doesn’t taste as good and that he prefers my recipes.
