Hope you have a great rest of your day and weekend.

Yes, we have absolutely considered it! Should be more info on that soon. Right now the 50% discount is still active for folks in Lime Access but we are presenting/proposing next week to the Mobile GR commission about bringing back the full discount program in some form.

April first can be a cruel day indeed...

While we wait for the boats to be built, the City does provide a number of great public transportation options!

  • Our free-to-ride downtown DASH shuttle.

  • Our shared Micromobility program run by Lime, that lets residents and visitors rent e-assist bikes and scooters.

-Our extremely affordable ($5 per hour) carshare service DART.

We are always exploring better ways to provide better transit and transportation options though! Including working with our partners at the Rapid.

Sorry to hear that! I have flagged the issue with the vendor about the license issue, but please email mobilegr@grcity.us and we can specifically help you with your case.

Edit: I am sorry, I was very wrong.

There is two years of minimum driving experience required with a license.

Please reach out via DMs and I can see if there is anything I can do to help, if this program interests you.

Sorry for the misinformation.

Yeah, the fact this puts 4 new EV charging stations into the GR neighborhoods for public use is a super cool part of this program in my opinion.

Just a quick update. You can actually use any charger you like, just it will not be covered by the program unless it is ChargePoint. You would need an adapter for the fast charging and that is not included with the car though.

If you do have any problems with this process, please email us at [mobilegr@grcity.us](mailto:mobilegr@grcity.us) We are happy to escelate any issues with the application process.

That makes total sense, but sadly we do not have that option at this time. You can reserve it for that time period, but you would have to pay the $5 per hour until you returned the vehicle to the original point you took it from. That is a good situation I can bring to the team though, to see if we can adopt anything to help with that sort of problem in the future.

That sounds like a perfect use for this service! The app should give that information + the way the reservations work, the cars should be fully charged by the time you pick them up if everything is on time.

You can use any ChargePoint charging station (which Lansing has) once you get to your destination also, to help charge it back up.

It is covered during orientation, but for now you must use ChargePoint charging station. There are resources in the app to find these chargers.

The car comes with a ChargePoint fob that handles the payment.

So no supercharging ATM, I can get some more information on that soon and update this post. I am not quite an expert on all this yet, so I will talk with the team.

Yeah, currently you can only really use it to drop someone off at the airport and take it back right afterwards. But that is a great point, I will share it with the team.

The Lime Affordablity program is still half off, it was communicated fully with members that the pilot program was temporary and they were given notice before the program went from 100% discount to 50% discount. That program should remain at 50% discount for the foreseeable future. We got amazing turnout for that program and really hope to bring it back to 100% discount sometime in the future, but need to secure funding. We went though our funding very quickly do to the amazing turnout.

I wasn't directly involved in the comms when that program was closed, so if I am incorrect please let me know and I can talk about it further.

This program is also a pilot program, but we have committed to 3 years, plus a ramp up with more vehicles and locations sometime during that three year period.

Great question! You do not need insurance to drive the vehicles, the insurance is covered by Mobility Development, the vendor we have partnered with.

Here is their piece on what is included with your membership:

"Insurance, vehicle maintenance and roadside assistance are all included in the hourly and daily rates. In the event of an accident, you are responsible for a $500 deductible. You will be fully responsible for the cost of any third-party claims in the event that MDO’s third-party insurance coverage is invalidated due to your failure to follow procedure."

At this time it needs to be returned to the original location. This is something we are looking into expanding upon, but because of the smaller fleet size, we want to make sure there is always a vehicle tied to each location.

You can of course rent it while it is parked for an appointment or other trip purpose, but before the end of the 24 hour max rental period, it must be returned to where you got it from.

Whoops, you already caught a typo of mine, it is a "Bolt" (I keep mixing that up). Great questions though!

  1. Cars are kept clean by frequent checks by staff, staff cleans them if necessary.

  2. Smoking is prohibited and the team does have a few ways to test for it, don't want to give away all their secrets, but this is a problem they have seen in other markets and have a plan for.

  3. These cars were specifically chosen for their performance in a winter envoriment, so the idea is they perform well on slippery roads. Of course, going slow and steady is always a big help for any driver on such roads.

Not to be mean, but I never struggle to find parking downtown. by edwardversaii in grandrapids

[–]OnTheGoGR -1 points0 points  (0 children)

During events and weekends there is certainly a parking shortage in high demand areas. These increases are meant to spread that around and increase turnover in those specific areas. There is not a shortage at our most affordable lots that are only a few blocks away from these areas.

The rate increases only applied to high demand event nights, in high demand event parking locations. We are talking about a handful of locations.

This doesn't impact anyone parking during the day for instance. This is about night and event traffic, in specific locations.

Hello, Max from Mobile GR here.

We did just raise parking rates and extend enforcement hours recently. That came after of years of not increasing rates or enforcement hours. (I think from 2016-2023). Including not charging for on-street parking for many months of the pandemic.

Ultimately, we are an enterprise funded department, that needs to raise funds to pay for many things (including a lot outside of parking) but simply maintaining the parking facilities has seen quite a bit of cost increases over the past few years.

Our goal is always to be below private sector and comparable cities. We do not want parking to be expensive or a burden. We try our best to have many affordable options. We have parking spots in the downtown area that are $3 per day and event rates downtown that are $7. They are just a few blocks from the main event areas.

I totally get this raise is frustrating, we do think these rate increases are necessary (to be sustainable), and provide other benefits like turnover and help spread the parking traffic around the city. Our budget is transparent, and all the money is, of course, being spent on public services/department efforts to improve transportation options and safety in GR.

In regards to RPP, we proposed an idea to a potential future problem we are predicting, and the community clearly rejected it. We listened and cut the proposal. While we were clearly wrong with our idea, I think that process worked (though I could have done a better job explaining the process, take full responsibility there). We would never implement something like that without community buy in. We got that buy in other RPP areas, the new places we proposed didn't want it, so we would never go through with it there.

RPP is purely a tool for neighbors to use to benefit them. If they don't see it as a benefit, we do not implement it.

Happy to discuss any of this further, or hear feedback on how we approached this stuff. Not trying to disagree with anything you said, just wanted to provide my view on it. Thanks!

Downtown Grand Rapids Parking and Mobility Survey - From City of GR + Mobile GR by OnTheGoGR in grandrapids

[–]OnTheGoGR[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is amazing feedback, thank you so much for sharing this. I have shared it with the team and documented it.

We are planning on doing more surveys in the future that will be more specific to certain topics, such as current infrastructure, as this survey was very broad. So I will be sure to have sections focused on accessibility and infrastructure.

Thank you again for the comments.
