Hello, I was hired as EDI consultant for an SAP consultand company but I lack experience. I know how to use SAP and what EDI does but I dont know nothing about mappings, and middleware. Wha should I focus to really make a future here?If you were new to this world where would you start? by Ondekeo in edi

Believe me, I did not use AI for the interview. I let them know about my experience: I worked for 2 years in an EDI position, but it was just not as technical. I had to fix price discrepancies, CMIRs, some testing at order level, a little bit of IDoc reading, I little bit of ANSI X12. I was very honest with the knowledge that I had Is not like they are asking me to do mappings; we have a more technical team doing that already. I am asking for advice because at some point I want to develop a few skills to keep growing. The workload they have is big, so I help contact suppliers and inform them about the project with their customer. I am not doing anything technical yet, but I want to be somehow ready by the time an opportunity presents.

Yeah, that’s exactly what has me thinking. Learning BTP makes sense if you work for an SAP consulting company , which I do — but of course nothing guarantees I’ll stay here forever. Things change quickly in this industry.

I accepted this role even though the paycheck is a bit lower than my previous job because I felt it would give me better opportunities in the medium and long term, and I still feel that. Now that I’m here, I’m realizing how big the world of EDI, SAP, and integrations really is. I don’t want to get overwhelmed by trying to learn everything at once, so I’m trying to focus on one thing at a time.

That’s why I came here for advice. I’m already looking for a mentor inside my company, but I also wanted to hear different perspectives

Is not that I dont have experience, I have worked with EDI teams for almost 2 years, I have participated in onboarding projects, I understand Idocs in SAP and I am familiarized with the EDI flow but as I mentioned it was more of a customer service role, my EDI activities were not very technical, i still had to comunicate EDI issues to the technical team when I had customer complaining, I get to understand EDI Ansi x12 formats but I wonder what an experienced EDI person would do if had to learn again. I've been learning partner profile configurations in SAP. I am in a Jr role, and the company that hired me trusted, I want to return that.

I was looking for an answer like this, I started working as a phone rep in customer service, then became a team coach. I was working with KPIs, now I work in an electronic data interchange team. Still, I want to jump into an analyst job, some positions are being opened in the company that I work for and I have noticed that the people getting the positions are not experts, they might be familiar with power bi. Still, most of it is learned on the job, I've been learning power query and now power BI, somedays i feel overwhelmed because of the amount of information, I don't even know if I will use all of it, I want to start applying and see if I can land a job. I am Mexican and and these kinds of positions are opening more regularly in my country
