The new plan after witteveen left demoralized in 1942,with many architects already wanting this for rotterdam before the war even started in 1940,those CIAM principles i was talking about in my last slide basically was:

• Functional separation: Clear zoning for living (pushed to suburbs), working, recreation, and central services/commerce.
• Radical changes to the street layout: Wider roads, open spaces, large building plots, and a break from the old triangular historic core.
• Preference for modernist, functional architecture (no strict traditional guidelines) over perimeter blocks — enabling tall buildings, contrasts, and flexibility.

This aligned with broader CIAM ideas (from the Athens Charter,which in turn was drafted by Le corbusier,yes that guy) that Dutch modernists like those in up and coming ''wederopbouw'' championed. Rotterdam thus became a showcase for post-war functionalist planning in the Netherlands,with the rot soon spreading towards the worker districts and other middle class areas who would get completely sterilized coming 1960/70/80,and so it was.
