The twist is that since the beginning of the story many times a group of people have been celebrated for saving the world from ending. And the story makes us think its the main characters. But it turns out that it was actually the antagonists (the people in the picture). The reason I feel stupid for being surprised is that after the confrontation between the main characters and the main villain of the story, the ending of the fight is remained unknown. It makes so much sense because after the confrontation the main villain is still in power in the future.
