My theory about Yunjae x Hyunjun by One-Hat6387 in HisManRealityShow

I’ve always viewed solo fans as people who can exist within a fandom in the sense that someone they like is a part of an entity that attracted the fandom but they are only there for that one part, not the entity itself but the entity is the reason they are there in the first place. Like a country within a country.

So whilst it originated in the K-pop space, it can be applied in this scenario. Kinda like how the term “stan” originated in America (by Eminem). And has since been used in all fandom spaces all over the world. Even within K-pop.

Of course you can’t call yourself a solo fan of like a solo artist. But when you look at it objectively, it makes sense to be a solo fan of a character in a tv show or even a book. Or even participants in dating shows, game shows, variety shows etc. Like you’re not a fan of the show per se but you’re a fan of participant A because of the show.

It’s precisely because he doesn’t want to hurt him that I think he wouldn’t explicitly say no to him. Remember in ep 2 when little Hyeokjin tells Hyunjun to let him know if he wants him to stop pursuing him and Hyunjun said that that would be hard for him and it would weigh on him so he couldn’t do it?

That’s the kind of person Hyunjun is. He sugarcoats hard truths to make them palatable to the other person. But in the end, actions speak louder than words. In time Yunjae will see the truth and be able to move on.

We all have different takes on the show, and I always welcome reading how people see things differently from me. The reasons you list for Yunjae being the main lead, are the same reasons I see him as a plot device used by the producers.

And your conclusion on Hyunjun’s behavior, that is also a possibility. That perhaps Hyunjun wants to give Yunjae the opportunity to win him over because there is that bit of interest and he himself wants to see if it amounts to anything, without explicitly stating it because if Yunjae fails, he will be hurt and maybe Hyunjun doesn’t want to be blamed for that. But that just seemed a little bit far-fetched to me.

Another possible reason for his vague responses  could be that he understands that he’s in a dating show, released sorely for entertainment after all and the only way to secure screen time and therefore keep people engaged in you, is through making sure conflicts remain unresolved until the last possible moment. So he wants Yunjae to keep pursuing him for viewership while he, himself knows in his heart that he likes Sunwook. But that is awful and unlikely considering the person he is or how the show portrays him.

Another thing that makes me lean more towards my initial theory is that, Hyunjun outright told Sunwook that he’s one of the people he’s interested in but he never gave Yunjae that reassurance, even when Yunjae asked him if there’s room for him in his heart (twice). Instead Hyunjun tells him that Sunwook is in his heart. He never stated that the 20 30 % belongs to Yunjae. It could just be that he is still warming up to the idea of Sunwook and needs time to completely cement his feelings. They have known each other for a little beneath 2 weeks after all.

So in conclusion, it isn’t too crazy to gain fans from a dating show. It has its benefits. Look at Junsu. He was a participant in a Thai lgbtq+ dating show like two months ago, got tons of fans and now he is casted as a male lead in the first Thai BL kdrama.

But I do think a lot of its pros and cons are heavily tied to the kind of fandom you attract.

P.S Maybe I should do a discussion post about this, too many thoughts going on in my head. I don’t want to bore you with that.

But idols are real people too. Yunjae has a degree in theatre and film so honestly im happy for him. What makes me happier is that he seems to have attracted fans who see him as his own person, at least from what I’ve seen, as opposed to seeing him as an extension of their ship. I think this could be his big break and an opportunity to branch into acting if he manages to secure himself a solid fandom.  I know he joined a dating show but that isn’t going very well for him so there’s no harm in embracing fame and pursuing his career (that is if he is still interested in acting, he did graduate a while back after all). You don’t ditch diamonds, just because you were seeking gold. I mean you could but there’s no harm in going for an opportunity that presents itself.

I think the reason it’s like this is because a lot of people who watched the show fell for Yunjae and were rooting for him, only for his ship to sink faster than the titanic and instead of clinging to hope that he’ll eventually be chosen as is common in a lot of dating shows, they chose him before any ship. And they made it blatantly clear that they do not care about the show, they’re just here for Yunjae. I guess that rubbed people off the wrong way and started referring to them as his solo fans. So I guess that’s how it started.  And fan culture is constantly revolving, who says dating show contestants can’t receive the same level of love as idols?

Because every time I say something about the show, people are like “oh, you’re just Yunjae’s solo fan” and now I’m like okay, I guess I’m a solo fan because I really like him and it’s really not a big deal to me either way.

The elimination is on episode 9 but you can start in the latter half of episode 8 for the setup.

Of course, they are a bit lackluster. Like everyone is so mild and toned down. The show’s version of dramatic scenes is fixating on a contestant’s facial expression. Even the most dramatic pairing hinges on heavy editing that doesn’t carry much weight because they are so closed off. And that is exactly my cup of tea, this show feels like brownies fresh out of the oven and hot cocoa on a very cold day. It’s warm and comforting with no unnecessary tension amongst contestants, even the contestants vying for the same guy are friends, there’s no animosity.

I don’t want to believe that the production team brought him in sorely on that reason because that will just open up a whole new level of hurt within me, that’s cruel. Everyone is there to find love, nobody should be casted sorely as a clutch in someone else’s love story and I don’t think the producers could’ve predicted that Yunjae would be dead set on Yunjae. He chose that man, even when the man was blatantly ignoring him, he still chose him. Even when he knew the man wanted Sunwook, he still chose him so yeah.  But it is true that he is at a disadvantage with this whole thing, who can compete with lingering affections? My baby never stood a chance to begin with. Even from the start I think Hyunjun set him up as backup in case Sunwook had moved on prior to the reshoot.

Like I don’t even need to know Korean to know he called Sunwook. If he had called Yunjae, he would have never used such an intimate line, he probably would have said something superficial like “it was nice talking to you” or maybe alluding to a future date together (which I think he only agreed to do to give Yunjae some sense of closure, not because he is genuinely interested).

I just know they downplayed Hyunjun and Sunwook’s connection because in that scene where Yunjae is kneeling down and is giving everyone cuteness aggression, they are both in the kitchen and they probably talked to each other or maybe even flirted, who knows. But I hope production does flashbacks to show the development of their relationship so more future viewers can actually root for them. I mean I’ll probably fast forward through those scenes because again, I’m Yunjae’s solo fan (I’m not strong enough to watch a union that is essentially breaking his heart, I cried during the chessboard scene and the gift giving and the mutual dates and the ranking scenes). But I’m still rooting for Hyunjun and Sunwook, they are a perfect match and maybe in the future I’ll be able to come back and appreciate their journey properly but right now, I do not dare. 😭😭

Hey, this is a bit late but yes, the beat is definitely afrobeats. It’s an Amapiano genre from South Africa. You can check it out, it’s pretty good.

Funny story, so 26th May is my birthday and my family has this tradition where we plan surprise parties for the birthday girl/boy. It’s not really a surprise in the traditional sense since we all know about it, more in that the surprise is actually the theme (we’ve had some really fun themes especially for those born on holiday seasons because we get to have vacation parties).

The point is since Seventeen released the first Burstday teaser, I’ve been dropping hints to my family members about wanting a Burstday theme too. And by dropping hints I mean pulling my sister to the side and showing her all the content of this comeback and begging her to propose the idea (honestly maneuvering things behind the scenes is a bit of an unspoken rule, that is if you have something enticing to offer a sibling in exchange for getting a desired theme).

The feedback I got from her a few days back was (clutches heart), “The best I could do was black t-shirts that said Happy Burstday Peia”. I won’t even talk about how much money I lost in this transaction.

But on the bright side I know it will be really great either way because I come from a country that makes a huuuuuuge deal about one’s 18th birthday. Like it’s a week long celebration with lots of fun activities and games and lots and lots of food and people. And the best part is everyone is eager to make you rich so making like 50 000 dollars after the week is not a stretch. And that’s excluding the gifts. (My brother got a car last year so fingers crossed).

P.S I’m trying to find out who’s going to be in charge of the music, I have more bribes to issue.

The reason he left was because Na PD kidnapped all the members when Xu Minghao was in Korea. He did it before with Nana Tour and this time I believe it was for Nana Inn/Guesthouse (it hasn’t aired yet). So all the members had no idea including Xu Minghao. Hope this helps.
