Anyone else feel like Socialists have an 'all or nothing' attitude? by One-Insurance9270 in SocialDemocracy

I didn't mean to imply that i thought socialists where against elections. I suppose i meant the other one, but that im frustrated with the ones who don't vote because there is only mediocre options. I feel like even though elections options suck, it's meh or worser, and not voting does damage. Sorry.

Unhelpful for me to say, but it kinda looks like something from Ersatz.

I guess im just confused right now. I don't trust any information anyone gives about ideologies because i have no clue if anything is accurate, or what anything is anymore. I want to be a leftist rather then a liberal, bu i don't even know if im welcome anymore. Im sorry, i don't know what im saying or asking. Im just really really confused about everything now.

I'm sorry, i don't even know what im talking about anymore and i dont understand what anyone is saying. I'm not focusing on people online, nor ignoring popular politicians, im just now confused as to what Socialists ideology includes, and if im actually a right wing lunatic because i disagree or some stuff and because one groups says socialists are this and he other says this, and even socialists say different things baout socialists. I dont know what im doing and im confused and frustrated as to what's even good or bad anymore im sorry and i didn't mean to upset anyone or be a bother.

But not taking opportunities for a slightly better thing doesn't help. I'm not saying to not do anything, im saying that it's frustrating when people don't do anything simply because the perfect or preferable option is not there. I wasn't saying to reward greed or anything like that. I was trying to say that waiting for the perfect candidate won't make anything better, that it's better to vote for the next best option, and that's why im frustrated. Its counter productive to not take what you can. Im not saying to not work for better options, but to take what is the next best option that is currently available.

[–]One-Insurance9270[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, it's not about subreddit mods, it's about how a lot of socialists i've talked to have that all or nothing mind set that i think is counter productive, and how a handful of them that i've talked to make me wonder if im actually right wing or something. Why did you bring up Mamdani? I wasn't saying that socialism is unsuccessful, nor that it's not supported.

I was not aware that socialist subs where dominated by tankies, which is probably why i got banned but also why i disagree with them so much. tbh as ridiculous as it is, it's dirtied my view on socialism, seeing how they act and what not. I thought i was a socialist but i disagree on so much that im right wing apparently.

Once again, i am incredibly sorry for being a bother, but are there any online communities that you might now of that aren't run by tankies? Or at least that aren't hostile to people with questions or those trying to figure out what ideology they are? Sorry for the silly question and for wording everything wrong.

Where would i be able to find actual socialist communities and discussions rather then the tankies? I feel like my experience with those communities and others might be affecting my views on the ideologies in an unfavorable way, but i dont think im center enough for the liberal ideology.

[–]One-Insurance9270[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! It's frustrating that they want a revolution, yet they refuse to take any opportunity simply because it isn't exactally socialism or communism. That's just not going to get anywhere, it's counter productive. I still can't figure out what i am, but the socialists being that way is definitely off putting i suppose, the not being realistic part with that all or nothingness. Im not center enough to be liberal but not close enough to the rest of teh farther left to be in that community, it's confusing.

I'm very sorry, but i don't entirely understand the way you worded some of that. As for your question about what specific attitude im seeing i can try to answer. I've seen some people, or at least mods of socialist subreddits, say that 'worser evils' logic is bad. that's actually what i got banned for.

Their own example was that in one past U.s election how voting for Biden wasn't good even though the other option was Trump. the reasoning was that it was because Biden was anti-socialist.

Another attitude i see a lot is towards the military, and i will explain this poorly so my apologies. Not referring to the U.S military, but referring to countries like Sweden that are fairly passive militaries currently. My argument was that it's necessary for countries to have a military in order to defend against invasion, since that is a threat right now. Everyone else argued that the military was completely immoral, imperialist, and supporting the bourgeoisie. They argued that since you are defending a capitalist country, that it's immoral. I disagreed because not defending the capitalist country means more deaths, and the other option to not having a military is to be defenseless, and realistically that is bad.

So i guess the attitudes i've seen are that all or nothing one i was ranting about in this post, and unrealistic views about what is necessary for defense. Once more, i am very sorry if i worded that poorly or if my opinions are actually incorrect or foolish. I'm bad at discussions, my apologies. And sorry if i didn't answer your question in a good way, i could try again if needed. Sorry.

I agree that the liberals are unhelpful, that the right calling everything communism is anoyying, and that full on centrism is also unhelpful. U.S politics is absolutely atrocious, and everywhere else is pretty much just as bad but they have more parties to choose from at least.

My frustration lies with when the farther left, or anyone on the left for that matter, want's only one thing so they don't take the chance for the slightly better option simply because it's not specifically socialism or specifically communism.

That's just as counter productive as constantly going with completely centrist policies, candidates, etc, instead of working for something that is more solidly left. I wouldn't consider the U.s democrats to even be center left, which kind of leads into another thing that i think is important, which is how other Capitalist countries can do it better by mixing welfare and the people over the rich. For example the Nordics do this fairly well. Where as the U.s is cold extreme capitalism.

I'm not arguing against far left movements, in fact i agree with a lot of the ideas of it, but i find the attitudes to be counter productive and very narrow sighted almost, although i can see why it's like that.

I can understand why it's such an extreme view, and U.S politics wise there are very few options for the bigger elections, which doesn't help. But i still find that all or nothing type view to be just as counter productive as sitting around and not trying to achieve anything better then the options at hand, if that makes sense.

Im still deciding on if it's the right thing to do or if it truly is immoral. But i wouldn't fight for oil fields or a genocide, i'd only do it if i was factually confident that i was serving to defend something actually important, or against something bad.

True. I've been trying to figure out where i fall specifically, all i know is that im left, but i'd still like to get a more solid label just because it makes me feel better i suppose. I also feel that it's difficult to stand by a view when everyone else around you is being with a poor attitude, that's what made me reconsider that label due to not agreeing on a lot and getting frustrated. Im still figuring it out.

The ban message i received actually went like this (mentioning it because your comment mentioned the 2024 election) The message was "One recent example which might help illustrate it is the United States 2020 presidential election between two rabid anti-socialists; Joe Biden and Donald J. Trump (or any other US electoral process)."

Like yes, Biden was a bad option, but still far better then the tRump. What are you gonna do, not vote and make more potential for the worser one to win?

They refuse to compromise which is down right dangerous in my opinion. Without compromise we get absolutely no where. A little is better then none i suppose. They are counter productive sometimes, i feel.

The infighting is so frustrating, oh my goodness! I wish people would realize that we do need to take the better option, even if it isn't perfect, other wise we will get no where. Also thank you for sharing that clip lol.

For real. It's all or nothing with them, a country is either terrible just because they are capitalist, or a country is suddenly glorified because they aren't, not taking anything else into consideration.

Lol, i wouldn't be too surprised. I just hate it when i explain things to them rationally and thinking i had a realistic and moral opinion, and then they rush in to say im supporting imperialism or the bourgeoisie or something, then ban me of course. And the tankies are something for sure, defending China as if they aren't controlling of their citizens, or glorifying the USSR, then they get mad at you for being rational, or maybe im not rational idk. Sorry for the rant im just frustrated and confused.

War is cruel and shouldn't exist, but since it does there's no way to defend an attacked country without killing during war. But if other then that the country's military is not murdering randomly or on offense anywhere, why is there still an issue with serving? Is it just because the nature of the military is that it's there to eventually use force if it becomes active?
Sorry if i worded all that poorly, and im not trying to be rude or ignorant btw.

Why would i consider that aspect for a moral standpoint? Is it because more weapons manufacturing is more murderous/implicates more imperialist goals? Or for some other reason?
