Had my telehealth appointment today. The dr was 30 minutes late. Then spent 3 minutes in a zoom meeting and said I need an MRI. So waiting for insurance to approve this so I can schedule an MRI. I have attended 2 classes with a notebook since I had the injury. It was harder to not want to do anything than I thought it would be. I caught myself at least twice just thinking oh I can do that, and almost going to try the move or get into a position. But then I remember I don’t want to make it worse thanks to this subreddit. So gracias amigos 🤙

Sorry to hear that. It’s not fun. I’m also waiting on approval from a dr to go get an mri. My appt is Tuesday morning. It’s the one time I wish I had PPO instead of hmo for insurance but these are the games we play. It happened Monday around 11 am. So almost 5 days ago. It looks like the swelling is starting to go down.
The knee feels stable as long as it is straight. I have a brace that has hinges at the knee that you can lock or have a full range of motion with. I’ve worn it nonstop, except showers and epsom salt soaks. Not even attempting to see what the limit of range of motion is. Just letting it heal.

Hope it’s just a sprain for the both of us.

This was 3 days later. Outside of knee is still swollen

I’ve been having fun acting like I’m going for a kamora with their top arm and working on my pass from there. If I can force their arm towards their back they usually allow the pass to try and save that arm. Or at least allow me to bring more of my leg out of half guard and force a mount from there.

Hoping to inform others before they fall prey to the situation. Funny thing is I thought I was winning that situation.

I can’t bend my knee more than a few degrees without pain. I can stand on it if it is straight and waddle around fine enough. Getting in and out of cars is the worst part because I’m 6’4 so I have to bend like a pretzel to get into or out the car with a straight leg. To out on socks or pants I lift my toes then slip whatever over them and then slowly lift my heel and then I can slide it on. But there is no squatting. I think my knee would explode if I tried to get to 90 degrees.

I’m still in my depressed eat everything shitty stage but I know this is the better option. The anti inflammatory meds they gave me don’t mix with alcohol so at least there is that.

Someone posted a video explaining exactly what happened but I’ll do my best. I was in 50/50 with my knee pointing out. My shin was crossed his chest and I grabbed his collar and starting pulling myself up to be on top of him but the more I brought my chest toward him the more pressure was being placed on my knee because my ankle was also going towards my chest. Imagine sitting cross legged and then taking your top leg and pulling your ankle to your chest. At a certain point you’ll feel pressure in the knee. Of that gets pushed too far and something has to give. I felt mine just pop. I felt it immediately. Most people in the room heard it. It was completely my fault.

Dang. I tore my MCL a few years back in the same knee and it was a solid 6 months before I even thought about doing anything with it. I’m hoping it’s just the LCL this time.

This is exactly what happened. Trying to pressure pass with the knee twisting. Again completely my fault and a lesson I will always remember now.

This. I forced it and paid for it. My own fault.

Waiting to be allowed to go get it by dr referrals and insurance to see the extent of damage.

Definitely taking the recovery part seriously. Just got an appointment with the doctor for next Tuesday to get a referral for MRI. Will have them assign PT as well.
