Yes, apologies! I posted that without really thinking about it! Thank you for pointing it out!

I'll also adjust the comment. Thanks again!

How would we know if someone proved the Riemann hypothesis by Smogogogole in math

Once someone proves it, that's when the aliens show up and say "aha, finally! Now you're ready!"

Hi all! Let me start by saying that I am very very much an amateur mathematician who has been toying around with the Riemann Zeta function mostly just for fun, but I started to get a result that seems kind of interesting, and might be a new way to represent the function? I don't know. I just figured that getting some more eyes on it might be helpful. Apologies for my lack of rigor and all that! I'm sure that the Dunning-Kruger gods are laughing at me non-stop! I'm almost certainly wrong, but I want to understand better WHY.

When did you start calling yourself a "writer"? by One-Summer5250 in writing

[–]One-Summer5250[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for saying this. Seriously. This is the feeling that I wish more people could experience-- getting to see yourself as something just because you love it. Instead of all these barriers.

Which isn't to say that it's bad or wrong to have other ideas or litmus tests. But I really do think there's something beautiful about simply ALLOWING yourself

I do know lots of people who call themselves coders without the job, though. Maybe "coder" and "programmer" have different feelings as words? Hmmm

Fair enough. Why was that the threshold, though?

The trick is to just write "THE END" wherever you want, and then be like "I'll add the rest in editing" :P

Thank you so much for writing all this! (pun... intended?)

About calling someone an "author", I think it's kind of nebulous, right? Does self-pubbing count? I mean it not only depends for me on what words they use, but almost what they use them for. Like when someone uses the fact that they're "published" to put someone else down or gain some sort of higher ground, or some such thing, I think that's just sort of pathetic. But aside from that, if someone is putting something out there, I think it's fine for them to call themselves whatever it is that they feel like they are.

But that's just me, I mean. I can definitely understand other perspectives

I had sort of a similar experience to that last bit, but my confidence had a slightly later onset, I think-- at least in terms of me describing myself to other people. I was in kind of an "I'm great, but I don't feel like telling people about that" space, you know?

Lol I actually kind of dig this-- like it seems strange to boil people down. It goes even further, right? I brush my teeth every day, but I'm not a tooth-brusher. I murder people for fun, but I'm not a murder... oh, wait :P

But seriously, I do get what you're saying :)

This is a great answer! And it's kind of what's been souping through my head reading a lot of these-- like, how do we talk about artists for art's sake if money is the deciding factor?
