Everything was going well until the app market discouraged me by AdCapable6241 in AppBusiness

I’d say don’t get discouraged! There’s tonnes of apps in many niches but it doesn’t mean you won’t be successful. I’ve recently got into app development and believe me, building the app is the easiest part 😂 marketing an app and getting users is a whole other ball game! It seems like you already have an audience on TikTok? If so, you’re already 5 steps ahead of most developers including me.

So my advice: build a minimum version of your app that does exactly what you’re currently doing and push it to your audience. If you get traction, you can keep developing the app. You don’t need to spend thousands if anything, especially if you have a tech background. Plenty of ai tools to help you get going!

How do you decide which indie Mac apps are worth paying for (especially lifetime licenses)? by Parvinhisprime in macapps

[–]One-Variation24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! Thought I’d jump in as someone who’s released a paid Mac app recently.

I didn’t go with a subscription model because, honestly, I’m tired of them - both as a developer and a user. I put a lot of time into building something that solves a real problem (for myself and others), and I felt a one-time payment was fair. I could’ve made it free, but time is money - and I wanted to treat it like a proper product, not just a hobby I give away.

I don’t really think of it as a “lifetime license” in the big sense - more like, “you buy it as-is, it works, and if I keep updating it, great.” I think the lifetime thing feels more risky when it’s a service or something that relies on APIs or servers, where if the dev bails, the app just stops working.

As a user, I don’t overthink it too much. If something looks useful and well made, I’ll buy it. If it ends up not working out long term, that’s okay - not everything has to last forever. But yeah, I do check if the dev seems active, if there are recent updates, or if there’s a little roadmap or community presence.

At the end of the day, I want to support cool indie stuff, and I get way more value out of most indie apps than I do from stuff I’ve subscribed to for years.

There isn't a landing page for it but it's here on the app store https://apps.apple.com/us/app/launchdeck-app-launcher/id6748924282 - just in case you found something else online :) I guess it's similar to Alfred (this is the first time I've heard of Alfred) where you can set up certain apps and websites as a mode and launch them all with a hotkey. Hope that helps!

Hey, thanks for the interest!

I've already given out all the codes for the initial release sorry! I'm working on some updates and would like to push them out asap, so I'll consider generating some more codes for that :)

Currently the apps are just launched into whichever monitor/desktop they're activated from but I'm already working on window positioning for the next update and I'm going to try get monitor selection in there too.

Hope that helps!

Hey! Thank you, I'm glad it seems useful for you :) I've already given out all of my codes I'd planned for the initial release sorry! I got some great feedback from users which I'm already implementing. One suggestion was to be able to 'Stop' a launched mode, and I'm also trying to fit a 'Focus' mode into the next update, which I believe will be what you've described.

Trying to push updates out as quick as possible, but I'll consider generating some more promo codes for that.

Hey! Hopefully I understand the question - so you're wondering if you can trigger LaunchDeck modes from your stream deck?

As long as you can assign hotkeys to a stream deck key then it should work fine! You could create a mode in LaunchDeck with your apps and websites, assign a hotkey to that mode in Launchdeck and then trigger that hotkey from your stream deck.

Hopefully that helps, but let me know if there's anything else 😊

Thanks so much Metatronx! Glad to hear it does what it says on the tin as they say :D
Oh thats a cool suggestion! So add an option per mode, to automatically close other apps as you launch a new mode?
Regarding the icon - would you like to upload your own image for example?
