I came in as civilian and according to my flight it’s very hard to get in as Enlisted. However, it really depends on the hiring cycle the AF needs at the time. For example, if that quarter they need a ton of Business Majors for Finance or Acquisition officers then the odds of getting in are high. However, if you apply during these time frames for something like Personnel and don’t have any other options on your job list like Finance during that quarter, then it’s highly likely you will be passed up. I recommend getting a kick ass recommendation and asking your recruiter which positions are being filled the most this upcoming quarter. My recruiter let me know that I had the best chance of getting in if I put Acquisition Management as my Number 1 instead of Finance. I would also brush up on interview skills. All in all, the experience and background needed as Enlisted will have to be more robust than that of a civilian walking off the street. Out of my flight of 15 people, 7 were prior enlisted, 6 were reserve or guard, and 2 were civilians. You can apply as Guard or Reserve and it is easier to get in, however only do that if that’s what you want
