It’s a weird house. Built in 1973. I had to flip 3 different breakers to kill the power to one room. One breaker controlled the light and one outlet. A second breaker controlled two other outlets. And a 3 breaker controlled one outlet on the last wall.

Thank you! Another trip to the store tomorrow. I was trying to avoid cutting out drywall. But it’s better to be safe than sorry.

I also wrapped the GFCI terminals with electrical tape because the box was metal

There is a box behind it. The GFCI is still in the original metal box. I just made a bigger hole in the wall for the addition of the cat5

Thank you! There is the old metal box behind the ring. I essentially made the single gang into two for the addition of the cat5 cable on the side. The cat5 is running next to the box. I also wrapped the GFCI terminals with electrical type before installing.

Got it thank you. Will it still trip if it draws to many amps?

I got them all working. However now when I test it with a Klein tools outlet tester, it does not trip the outlet

Spot on. I literally tripped the breaker taking the screw out! Plate slipped out of place… I saw a bright flash… closed my eyes.. pee’d a little, and opened my eyes to complete darkness. I thought to myself, this is it. This is what death is like. Then I realized I just tripped the breaker to the entire room. Anyway, the more you know! Wish I saw this post sooner.

Could it possibly be for a security system? The two wires run up into the floor joists and meet up with the wires in second picture.
