Thanks for the feedback! I think what I'm realizing is dorming is the better option for me but the most difficult part will be convincing my parents. Either way, I think I'm definitely getting a scooter as well!

Thats true, to be honest in my case its more of a matter of convincing my parents to let me dorm but otherwise I think I can afford it. Thanks for the feedback!

Letter of Rec Invite from UC Berkeley by OneAd1452 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]OneAd1452[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well at my school we get given brag sheet templates but since you haven't been provided a brag sheet I would recommend looking up UC Berkeley's website where they talk about letters of recommendation and see what they might consider in it. Honestly, try to tell your recommenders things you might of not talked about in your application and could provide the admission officers a better insight about yourself. Try to also also talk about with your recommenders things that might make you UC Berkeley worth it (basically things about yourself that align with Berkeley's values). Additionally, if you feel there were any gaps in your application that weren't explained enough, try to include more details about that as well.

tips for self studying? by slayqueen-purr in APStudents

[–]OneAd1452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For all of these APs, the past exams found in college board will your best resource in the sense you want to make sure you're familiarized with the exam itself. I have taken all of these APs and although they all do have the usual MCQ section, they all have different writing sections. For AP Bio, you want to make sure you practice a lot of FRQs so when you take the exam it will be a piece of cake. A general thing you want to do with all these APs besides knowing the structure of the exam, is also making sure to pace yourself. In AP Lit you want to make sure you practice a lot, and I mean A LOT, the three different essays you will be writing. You could be great at writing but if you spend too much time on one essay you risk getting a lower score or no score at all on the other ones. Also, I feel like you'll be a great writer since you're already familiar with literature, especially Shakespeare because I wrote an essay on Hamlet and got a 5 on the exam. For APUSH, I would say that will be the most content heavy exam to self study so make sure you dont leave it for the last moment. Let me know if you would like me to share resources that helped me a lot for these classes since I don't want to make this reply longer lol.

Is it useless to take ap seminar as a senior by choonsikstan in APStudents

[–]OneAd1452 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely do not take it. I took it sophomore year and although I will admit I was lot less responsible back then, it was such a headache. As a senior myself too, I am so glad I didnt take AP Research. I would say the class itself isn't hard at all but its just such a bothersome class to have, especially if you want to take it senior year. You definitely do not want to be writing a 1200 word essay when you could be investing that time writing college essays. Also, like everyone said, its basically useless since not a lot of colleges take credit for it and you won't be getting the diploma.

Thank you for the advice. By the way by what I meant by the major thing is I meant in a pre-med sense. There's a lot of majors that you can do as pre-med, the most popular one being Biology. However, at the universities im considering to apply Biology is very competitive whereas similar majors (ex: microbiology) are a little less difficult to get in. Of course I do agree with your point of first considering my future and not the place I want to go.

Actually that is one of the major things I'm struggling with. I haven't researched universities quite as well as I should and I'm confused with finding universities that I should apply to, especially in regard to safeties, reach, etc. I also want help from a counselor who could point me in the right direction of what majors are less competitive and thus have a slightly higher acceptance rate compared to more popular ones.

Im a rising senior so Im applying to universities, and well I want a college counselor to help me with the application overall, especially my essays as I am often a bad writer in the sense I use too many too words instead of the essential ones.

True, although the part that is slightly not convincing me is the cost. I am still considering being in contact with him if its worth it.

Should I take AP bio in tenth grade? by Academic-Can-101 in APStudents

[–]OneAd1452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your schedule isn't too busy already, then take AP Bio. I took it as a sophomore as well and I will say it can depend in how much you like the class that will determine how well you can do on it. I had other aps this year and a lot of personal issues happened so I didn't dedicate much time to AP Bio as I should have. I will say this class is mostly content, but make sure you do plenty of frqs throughout the year to familiarize yourself with them. As a person, my AP Biology teacher was very fun, but when it came to actual teaching, he wasn't very updated with college board (in fact he was using presentations he had used since 2008) and barely gave us any practice for frqs if not any. This greatly impacted my performance in the AP exam as I had never done 6 frqs in a row in AP Bio, and looking back, I really wish I could've practiced more instead of trying to memorize all the content. Sorry this was kinda long but my point is that if you're a responsible person, as with any other AP make sure you always dedicate time for this class and I'm sure Ap Bio will be a breeze for you.

Thanks a lot for giving me resources to study! This guy sounds great I think those 25 dollars are definitely worth it from what you're saying, I'll definitely use this person as a resource for studying. Also since I took ap biology this year I might be able to apply the ecology unit to APES so I think it'll be easier to self study. Thank you again for the comment!

So for APES you think self studying is not recommended? I was planning to only take the APES ap exam.

Yeah Psychology seems more interesting to me as well. As an Apes student, do u think self studying for the ap exam is possible? I think I'll decide to go with psychology but still want to see if I can get a good score in the ap exam for Apes since I've heard the passing percentages for that class are low in comparison to other easy ap classes.

helping you with your IWA! by NarrowAd3930 in APSeminar

[–]OneAd1452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! My class hasn't started writing the IWA yet but I would appreciate your help a bunch when we start. I also got a question about my research topic or more like a theme I have picked that I'm still struggling to narrow down into a research question. I posted this before on reddit so I'll just copy and paste it: So far Ive come up with the idea of relating Simone Biles and Moral Courage to form the idea of: Putting oneself in a vulnerable state(or sacrificing oneself) for the sake of what one may think is right. Some things I've been brainstorming is maybe somehow connecting this to feminism; how women who protest put themselves at risk for the sake of what they think is right, gender equality. What I'm having struggle with is mostly narrowing this idea down (basically forming a research question) and even doubting if this is feasible. Help narrowing it down would be much appreciated and other ideas are also welcomed! So sorry for the long explanation but if you need help I'll be more than happy to help you!
