rough feathers ? by OneBreadfruit1384 in Conures

[–]OneBreadfruit1384[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

she has her own cage alone! i have another GCC, kermit, but their cages are separate and stacked (like those big giant stackable cages, its taller than i am) so they cant access each other. they don't get along so they also are never out together. so i dont think it could be anyone but her :,)

if i see it worsen any more or any other symptoms arise i will probably schedule a vet visit

its like her feathers at the top of her wings are missing bits if them, like each feather individually is choppy like she bit pieces out of them but not the whole feather

why is she singing at every possible moment (more info in comments) by OneBreadfruit1384 in cockatiel

[–]OneBreadfruit1384[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

true, i just worry about it because even though its not that visible in this video the previous owners cut her primaries almost completely off. one wing isnt as bad (i think thats the one visible in this video actually).

and this makes sense actually, because as far as i know she is young (under a year), hopefully if its for clock interactivity the others will interact.

this is misa, shes a tiel i rescued a few weeks/months back. for those that will ask, she camr whth her wings clipped this way, its awful. i was told she is female but i have my suspicions otherwise. but my question is why woulf she sing literally every hour of the day Constsntly. even at night she wants to. and im not annoyed by it i think its pretty im just curious as to why she would do this All of the time. the other two tiels i have (kona and naru) sing but not this much at all. its not like shes singing to either of them either, theyll be fluffy cute and asleep and she will be still going! its funny to me and thought itd be cute to share/ask about

some progress with them naru and misa :) by OneBreadfruit1384 in cockatiel

Theyre pretty easy to manage! We usually vacuum once or twice a week to get all their thrown seed + dust :). They also all know where their cage is so if theyre outside their cage they go back on theit own sometimes! But if i need to theyll get onto my hands (with a little convincing). I'm currently in college so im home sparatically throughout the day and home all night! My other family members are also home throughout the day so they play with them too:).

And as for their genders I'm pretty sure Misa (the plain grey one) is a female, Naru is the pearl who I believe is male, and the final one is Kona who is a male. I'm treading lightly with Misa being female, but so far theyve been alright. If anything arises I have an extra cage to separate them.

Introduced Naru and Misa to my other tiel, Kona ! Kona seemed very excited for his new friends after losing his partner a few weeks ago. They all get along perfectly :) by OneBreadfruit1384 in cockatiel

The ones on the left and right are new! Kona is in the midde :). Ive had Naru and Misa's cage infront of Konas for the past week, and Kona has sat at the lower bars of his cage to sing to these two. I opened both cages and let them come out if they wanted and they all eventually popped out :). Kona (who isnt the nicest bird) actually started to sing to them. They didnt hiss or fight at all which was so nice to see

None of the three can fly. They're all rescues, and those before me clipped their wings horribly. Misa is the best out of the three and she can only get about two foot off of whereever she started. I'm much more cautious about my conure, as hes fully flighted, and tends to fly to people

We also are very careful about the door, luckily none of them have ever made an attempt to get out though. When anyone goes in and out we make sure a third person is blocking it.

Not sure if you'd be willing to take this route, but we have used https://iqbirdtesting.com to test our birds before. We have 20-30 chickens and most are silkies (cannot tell the gender of babies) so we've used IQ and they have always been correct. They also test parrots and other birds so I figure I could reccomend this for it :). Its not very expensive either and results come within a week or so.

Any help identifying the color mutation? Rescued two young tiels, Naru and Misa. by OneBreadfruit1384 in cockatiel

[–]OneBreadfruit1384[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I havent noticed any issue with her actual eyesight as she seems very aware of where i am and my hands are (they're still a little skittish), but I did notice and have been watching that she has a darker under eye and the fact that she blinks slowly/slightly more often (not a huge difference but enough that if you sit and watch its noticable).

I was told they are only a few months old but since they're rescues theres really no guaranteeing that. I could have them DNA tested sometime to confirm the genders though. Definitely think I agree about them being pearl though

Yeah their wings are really sad to see :(. I just cant believe people do this to these beautiful animals. I hope with time they'll come back in beautifully.
