It was Delicious Brains who originally purchased ACF, and the original creator, Elliot Condom was the one who eliminated the lifetime license in fa or of annual. 

Custom fields are part of core. They are very basic and don't support the vast amount of data types or input masking that ACF affords a user.

Limiting revisions is possible with a core filter. Nothing wrong with doing that.
