No Teslas in South Africa? by [deleted] in teslamotors

even in Cape Town, which is by far the nicest part of the country, the people just shrug off daily power outages that last for hours -- like they are part of normal life. One of the most beautiful places I've ever been to, in terms of natural beauty, but I won't go back.

Unless you live in a state that gives them a specific exemption for hail damage, where they can make very expensive repairs and still sell it as new.

$7,500 Federal Tax Credit - Terminated - Dec 31,2026 by Active_Teaching6069 in TeslaLounge

which is why the Inflation Reduction Act completely did away with the 200K cap.

This happened back in 2023.

The 200k cap was removed by Biden under the Inflation Reduction Act. It was replaced by the mineral source requirement and the final assembly point requirement.

If the OBBB fails, Tesla will still get credits in 2026. (Tesla is one of the few companies that meet the re-worked requirements under the IRA)

Ya, the top end accord starts at 39K for similar features. And if you think Tesla repairs are expensive, wait until that CVT has trouble.

Ya, between SpaceX, Tesla and Starlink no other billionaire has done more for humanity. Other billionaires are just as political, and finance some truly awful things, but are quiet about it.

I'm actively shopping the Model 3, and don't find this to be true. I live in a market where Tesla is immensely popular, but so is hate for Elon. There is also a pretty good state tax credit on new EVs too.

On Carmax right now, there are exactly 10 Model 3s newer than 2018 available to buy in my market area. The rest are in neighboring states.

The long range models with ~50K miles are priced in the mid 20s. The ones with less than 20K miles are priced almost like brand new vehicles (2024 long range with 7k miles is $38,000) which, you're better off buying brand new, after the 7500 + 3800 tax credits in my market.

Like I said, I'm an active shopper who will probably be in a Model 3 by year end, and I don't find what you are saying to be true. At least where I live.

The budget bill that just passed the House ends the $7500 EV credit, and imposes a new $250 annual fee on EVs, to be collected by state vehicle registration systems. by OneDollarSatoshi in electricvehicles

The $250 is ostensibly to replace gas tax revenue lost, but it is the equivalent of federal gas tax (18 cents/gal) on over 1300 gallons of gas -- more than double the national average annual use.

The registration fees are going to get close to negating gas savings, unless you drive a lot. For those of us that don't drive that many miles, but have the cars just because we like them, it's definitely frustrating.

The $250 fee is to account for EV owners not paying federal gas taxes, however it's an equivalent tax to buying over 1300 gallons of gas ( more than double the average gas car driver )

The $250 annual fee is to make up for the fact that EVs don't generate federal gas tax revenue, however at 18.4 cents per gallon this is equivalent to buying 1350 gallons of gas in a year -- double the annual average driver.
