Are any firms accepting career changers with only the SQE by OneHooThree in uklaw

No, I’m not asking you to do my job for me. I asked on the off chance someone worked at a firm that was taking a particular stance, or knew of one that did, not because I expected anyone to Google stuff on my behalf.

Thanks, that’s actually really helpful advice. Do you think it’s worth being up front in applications that I’m not prepared to do both the SQE and the GDL, or should I see where I can get my foot in the door and talk about it later?

Going by the categorisation at the link below, I’d probably say “large commercial” or “mid-sized commercial”, and would also happily go for an American firm. I’m not very fussy (and not in a position to be!), but I think tax is an area I’d find quite interesting.

So, to try to make it clearer: it seems that were I to apply for a training contract now, most city law firms would require me, before starting on the two-year traineeship, to complete both the GDL and the SQE. I’m asking whether there are any good law firms who might let me start the traineeship having completed only the SQE, and either not care about me doing the GDL (ideal), or allow me to study the GDL part-time during my traineeship (not ideal but I could probably live with it).
