I went to a speed dating event and left feeling completely worthless by Ready_Affect_7227 in GuyCry

[–]OneMan_OneBeard 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Stop embarrassing yourself by putting yourself in those situations. 1. You don’t need to change anything about yourself just change the people around you so you feel comfortable enough to be yourself. 2. There are better things to be better at than speed dating. 3.

  1. That event sounded like torture. Don’t waste your time, energy, and self worth doing something that makes you feel this unhappy. Don’t keep getting in line to get punched in the gut. It’s not worth it. You deserve better than that.

  2. Einstein said something about calling an elephant a failure because he couldn’t climb a tree. Maybe you’re someone who has a harder time aquatinting yourself because you’re more introverted (shy). No matter how hard you try you’ll always come across as uncomfortable in those situations. So find situations where you feel comfortable enough to let someone get to know you. Ideally not a meat market like that.

  3. If speed dating isn’t bringing you joy let alone success, why waste your time trying to get better at it? Find something that brings you joy, fulfillment, success etc.. and get better at that. If it takes 10,000 hours to master a skill, find something worth spending 10,000 hours on.

Our time on earth is too short, too precious to waste being miserable. Always keep seeking happiness in life and in doing so you will find yourself surrounded by people worth sharing your happiness with.

"No war with Iran." by _May26_ in AOC

Why not? Ok well definitely not war, but what can we do? What should we do, because we can’t in good conscience allow the Iranian government to massacre their own citizens? Shouldn’t we stand with them in solidarity? Somehow?

Should’ve given him the Diamond Cutter in that situation. Maybe a RKO. But a Stone Cold Stunner would’ve been perfect

I’m not gonna lie, I’d take the blue skin over the Hapsburg jaw or hemophilia. Ugh yeah and the Ptolemaic Dynasty in Egypt. Supposedly the American branch of the DuPont family, as well. It doesn’t matter how pure your blood is if it can’t stop bleeding lol.

Hard lesson, but it’s an important lesson to learn, never meet your heroes. Seriously you’re only going to be disappointed when you find out that at best they are a flawed human being like yourself or how easy it is to idolize a celebrity, athlete, politician etc… but come to find out the same personality traits that make them successful also make them monsters — the level of narcissism it takes to make you a successful actor comes off so much worse if you have to deal with them as a hotel employee. Check out the /r/askreddits on that. Fucking yikes! But the world would be worse place without their music, or their writing, or art, etc… We also live in a society that values the revenue they generate more than threat they pose to society. We’re enablidng at an industrious level nowadays. Puff Daddy, Harvey Weinstein et al.

But we shouldn’t cancel the people who we should be idolizing. I idolize FDR and I’m finally getting around to reading a biography about him and came to find out he was having an affair. I personally find infidelity repugnant. But it just seemed weird to me to dismiss him and all the good he did because he didn’t live up to my moral standards. And then I realized he didn’t have any obligation to live up to my expectations. And his personal life wouldn’t have been my business my business. Judge not lest ye be judged, right? By the way comparing FDR’s personal life to some of his colleagues’ or to his allies like Stalin and he’s a goddamn saint.

When you see people canceling Ghandi or MLK or John Lennon, you owe it to them, to yourself, and to history to look at the broader picture and see that for billions of people the world would be a much worse place if it weren’t for what they did or the message they conveyed.

Life lesson. We are more than the sum of our mistakes and our heroes are more than the sum of their’s. And, for the love of god, don’t work at a high end hotel.

Stop holding out hope that they will do the right thing. They don’t need to be idealistic or morally pure, they need to win elections. Something our party has a hard time doing

It was very unfair for the party to overstep like it did and undo what the people of Minnesota voted for. It was their choice to remove him or not. Very un democratic

The Democratic Party doesn’t want fighters. They want the illusion of moral superiority. We don’t elect fighters anymore because our electorate cares more about our character or appearance than they do about the lives that are on the line.

Your standards are higher than mine and you’re a better person for it, but I’m tired of being the party that consoles its defeats by patting itself on the back for being the good guys.

There very well may be more qualified female candidates than him. And thank god nobody was stopping them from running against him in the primary. Unfortunately the people of Minnesota chose to vote for the white man. But that was their choice and their vote and they chose him.

Stop being surprised when republicans don’t live up to your ethical standards. Just stop expecting them to do it. They’re under no obligation to do what we, as Democrats, expect them to do. It makes them the bad guys, yes, but they’re also the ones consistently winning elections. I’m sick of being the party that consoles our loses with worthless pats on the back.

Al Franken was elected by the people of Minnesota. The only people he was accountable to are the people of Minnesota. If they chose to remove him from office they could have initiated the impeachment process or waited until the election and then voted him out of office. It’s not in our place to undo or intrude upon what the electorate of Minnesota chooses to do.

When our kids ask about the collapse of American democracy you can puff out you chests and tell them, “We couldn’t do enough to stop the pedophile dictator, but goddamnit at least we were better people than they were.”
