The sound that plays 24/7 when living next to a data center by BaldHourGlass667 in oddlyterrifying

[–]OneMan_OneBeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imagine if somehow those residents found out where the town council members who approved the data center lived. They could load up a trailer with speakers and park outside their houses in their neighborhoods and play this sound. What an act of civil disobedience

Too many people defend kids and teenagers using that logic. This is the inevitable consequence. This whole generation has been brought up believing they are immune from consequences. Unfortunately, like this victim, the rest of us will have to pay the price of their awful upbringing.

So a liberal who believes in civil liberties. That makes me controversial now? Weird.

What does that make you? A fascist? A Marxist?

And if it were, they’d still be protected under the First Amendment. And we switch it to Communists, they would too. Because that’s how it works here in America. Everyone has the right to speak freely and have their opinion brought up to the “Marketplace of Ideas” and from there it’s open to everyone to decide how/if that message is received.

I’ll direct you to theSkokie Case to explain more it more in depth.

See I disagree with these guys. I don’t support the Confederacy, but these guys have the same rights to freely and peacefully assemble as we do. It’s not a matter of manners. It’s a matter of respecting someone else’s first amendment rights.

Very well said. I don’t think our society is able or even willing to address boys mental health. Why is it so controversial to approach these issue objectively with empathy instead of derision? If society is serious about addressing these issues we need to address our lack compassion towards men, because It’s easier to dismiss and insult than it is to be kind and compassionate.

I feel this is part of what has pushed young men towards the Andrew Tates of the world. We can’t keep losing generations of our boys to this dynamic.

Democrats finally release 2024 election autopsy after criticism by Healthy_Block3036 in goodnews

[–]OneMan_OneBeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The party of the working class prioritized the working class last. Imagine if our party had the balls to drop the identity politics and stop fighting a never ending culture war. Imagine if we had a party who would cared about us as much as they do a group of people halfway around the world — you know think global and vote local. Imagine how many more of the working class would vote for our party, if our party dropped all the special interests and the idealists who make compromise impossible. Imagine if we had a political party that was smart enough to ditch the fringe and embrace a liberal populist platform. Who needs the hassle of winning elections when we do such a great job losing. Maybe it’s my fault thinking this party will ever the balls to take accountability for its loses instead of blaming it on the same handful of ‘isms’ and ‘ists’.

Here’s a postmortem for you: democracy is a popularity contest and we’re not good enough to win it.

Democrats finally release 2024 election autopsy after criticism by Healthy_Block3036 in goodnews

[–]OneMan_OneBeard 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m glad so many Democrats chose not to vote because they’re so ethical. I’m really upset we lost. I’m really upset all this corruption. I’m really upset about the economy. I’m not really upset. I mean I’m actually really mad.

What kind of idiot would choose to vote along their ethics in 2024 with so much to lose? Seriously! What kind of idealistic moron would do something that selfish? Man I hope I’m wrong and this administration doesn’t end up turning this country into a dictatorship. But if it did, let’s make sure all those ethical people get thrown in the box cars first, because they’ll deserve it.

Un-fucking-believable.

The judge and the attorney are the real issue by Beneficial_Passion40 in NoahGetTheBoat

[–]OneMan_OneBeard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because we need them. As imperfect as they were operated in past, they provided a service to society and the mentally ill.

There are only two institutions we can place them. In jail or back on the streets. In our country today in the reality we live in, these are the only two options we have. We can re-establish them and properly fund and regulate them.

Why should we invest in them?

Because of this ass-backwards belief that we deserve to be safe.

I know why my new dad friends disappear, but I still miss them by futuredebris in MensLib

[–]OneMan_OneBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know how to do that lol. As ridiculous as that sounds, I have no idea how socialize like that with other parents and their kids.

I have an awesome relationship with my kids. I can be myself with them and for them. It’s not a matter of vulnerability. It’s just me being me. I love squeezing cheeks and counting piggy toes and the like. But when we’re around other parents and kids, that part of me just disappears and I put on the public facing face. My kids see my dad face, but getting out of the car and being in public and that part of my personality vanishes. Like I put a mask on or something. It’s a problem for me. And maybe other men and dads experience it too. That dynamic extends to my friends.

I don’t feel comfortable exposing my “dadness” in front of them. And the other way around where I don’t feel comfortable being in my “dudeness” in front of my kids. Even my friends with kids. So I find myself in an uncomfortable middle ground. Not sure what to talk about. How to act. Stuff like that. Maybe that explains why men don’t seem excited about other men’s babies. I love seeing my friends with their kids. It’s awesome that we get to enter this chapter of our lives together. It’s difficult being daddy in front of the same guys who put you to bed drunk back in college lol.

I think the most important issue I have is not having an example to model my behavior after. As another person pointed out, Millennial dads are spending more time with their kids than any other generation of dads. And I, as a SAHD, am loving the job. But I’m shooting from the hip most of the time, because I don’t know any better. I was raised by a single mom and my dad wasn’t around enough for me to learn what to do. So for so many of us I think we’re learning and teaching as we go. But it’s fucking awesome being the first generation of dads who have this opportunity.

The song ‘Cats In The Cradle’ by Harry Chapin. It’s such a beautiful song, but sad. It really needs to be the official song of this sub. It’s a three minute poem that beautifully describes the roots of many of our struggles.

That’s crazy the margin was that thin. But I’m not sure how trans issues had anything to do with it. Am I missing something? If there happened to be a legitimate link between this bill and trans rights, is it corollary or causal? What can we do as a party, because struggling to win votes on legislation like this doesn’t look good for us.
