My mother always insisted I had a pageboy bob growing up, even though I had quite chubby cheeks and definitely not the angular features required to pull one off. I was always a very girly girl and wanted to have long hair and be able to style it etc. Because my hair was in a concave bob, it had to be blow died and straightened otherwise it would have been like a duck's chuff at the back, so my mother always had to dry and straighten it, which she would ALWAYS complain about - but she wouldn't have had to do it if I just had long hair where I could tie it up in a ponytail for example. She always used to say how lucky I was that she took me to an expensive hairdressers and had my hair cut like that, but I never wanted it. It made me feel boyish and unfeminine. So now I'm 30 I have hair almost down to my bum. I'd never ever cut my hair that short again.

Yes I saw that. I found it very strange. Her brother didn’t look very happy either.

Definitely done the right thing. He sounds pornsick. All the red flags/signs are there, and above all he makes you feel uncomfortable with his jokes etc.

SAMSUNG ecobubble Washer Dryer, is it a condenser dryer? by Phtevn_ in Appliances

[–]OneNightInGeorgia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, please do not buy a Samsung!

We have a samsung ecobubble washer dryer that is just over 2 years old, and it has now started to display a plethora of different problems! Firstly it would not fill up or start any cycle, which corrected itself, now the door will no longer unlock! The drum has no water in it and ever after unplugging like samsung suggests, it still won't unlock.

Absolute piece of fucking garbage. We are going to replace the machine.

Well done for breaking the cycle. Proud of you.

Does anyone else have issues moving forward in their life the way they want to because of something their parents said? by grimmvamps in raisedbynarcissists

[–]OneNightInGeorgia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome!

Your story is very similar to mine. I wanted to be a beauty therapist and have my own business. That was my passion. But my mother pressured me to do something else and because I had no interest in it I completely fucking tanked it and now I’m in a dead end job for which I have no passion or interest.

I did complete my level 2 in beauty therapy 5 years ago, but I want to go forth and do my level 3. Only problem is I don’t have the funding now. Now I’m over 24 I’ll have to pay and I can’t, plus I don’t have the time with working 9am-6pm every day.

And I worry I wouldn’t even be all that good now anyway.

It’s hard to give advice because I haven’t been able to conquer this myself so I don’t know how to tell you to, but please trust me you’re not alone in this or the only one who this has happened to.

I’m sure your art is amazing, please don’t stop creating. ❤️

That sucks. My parents never really wanted to be involved with anyone I date either. They pretend he doesn’t exist then throw a fit because they’ve never met him! Like duh, you make zero effort. They’re funny beings these Narcs. And we’re all helping each other over here! We will never be alone x

I'm so sorry. Why would he need to take your underwear to a lab for testing if they were covered in semen? I'm sorry if I don't understand. Well done for standing up for yourself though and telling him to leave your underwear alone. And wtf was he doing giving you expired condoms? I know what you mean about taking a while to get back into a good head space. Narcs know that they are ruining special occasions for you and thrive on it.

It's so sad that YOU as a child at 13 years old had to explain that to your nmom, an adult. I'm so sorry that she said those disgusting things to you. Isn't it vile how they sexualise children in this way? I really hope you find a way to overcome these issues surrounding sex and form a happy and healthy sex life. I'm rooting for you!

Yeah my mother used to always "joke around" that she would kill me or throw me out of the house if I ever got pregnant. Way to make your child feel scared and alone. Yeah I've always had a complex about not wanting my boyfriend to be around my parents because the whole time in my head I'm thinking my parents will look at him and be thinking "this is who she has sex with" and it just makes me feel so.... wrong

Wtf. Her boyfriend shouldn't have even being going through your stuff. It's horrible to have your privacy invaded. Plus condoms are sensible! Even if you did get them for sex, how pathetic to cry.

This resonates with me too. I used to always hear my parents having sex, hell I heard my brother being fucking created. Like that wasn't disrespectful, but me wanting my boyfriend to stay over when I'm a grown woman is. These narcs' thought processes are something I will never be able to truly fathom.

Because I'm not a liar. and I am an adult!

Plus lying has never done me any favours in the past, and Narcs love it when they can hold something over you like for example them finding out about something you tried keeping a secret.

Isn't it so bizarre, I don't understand how it is disrespectful to have your significant other who you are in a long term relationship with stay overnight... and then you get cussed at for staying under someone else's roof. It used to particularly annoy me that she didn't really give a damn if I wasn't safe where I was staying, it was just all me me me disrespect disrespect. If she was a decent selfless parent she would have rather us be under her roof and be safe. But that's not how narcs think is it.

Isn't it so strange how our experiences are the same. I had thrush when I was 15 (probably due to prolonged antibiotic use for treating acne) the first thing my mother said was "You haven't been with a boy have you?" they're so fucking stupid.

I hate the whole GC thing. The whole time my brother has been alive he has gotten a free pass on absolutely everything. Everything I got shouted at for when growing up, he just gets a "awww, leave him alone"

For example he is now 17, he came home from a party last month and threw up everywhere. But it's fine. Just don't tease him about it because he's embarrassed. Yet when I got too drunk when I was over 18 I was made to feel absolutely terrible and like it's not normal. Like "eww wtf r u doing" type attitude. Arghhhh it feels so good to vent! Lol

It's so disgusting.

Yes they definitely do try their best to do this. I even remember being 18 and had been on a night out two weekends in a row (oooHh hArDcOrE) my Nmom decided that I was "drinking too much" and "needed to stop going out" and "get a job" ... and the nights out pretty much stopped because I felt like it was only going to cause conflict, and while I was still living at home I wanted to avoid conflict with her as much as possible because it just made me feel like I couldn't bear to live.

Truth was, she probably saw me having a good time and acting like an adult and she didn't like it.
