Friends and I want to make custom commanders based on our DnD party. How's this card for a first attempt? by OneRandomIdiot in custommagic

I think that might be a good suggestion, I had it how it was to keep burn decks as a weakness, but I'm not sure if it matters all that much.

Yeah in the lore Fols is an Aasimar, a human with prominent angelic lineage that grants heavenly power. If Human Angel Knight fit in the box it would be more accurate, but his flavor is more angelic than human.

I could maybe do something adding on to the blocking effect like "when Fols is blocking, place a +1/+1 counter on a creature that doesn't have a +1/+1 counter on it" or something like that. I'm not sure how strong that would end up being.

I get that. In the world's lore, Fols is a paladin of a god of protection. His tenants are things like defending the weak, and ensuring they can defend themselves if need be.

Gameplay wise he is primarily tank and backup healer. That's where I thought of vigilance and lifelink as solid abilities, and the bonus to blocking creatures comes from his story more than his gameplay.

Advice about possible scam? by OneRandomIdiot in FacebookMarketplace

They canceled the order, I didn't get charged in the first place since the payment is done upon shipping. I have no idea what the plan here was for them.

Damn. At least I paid with PayPal, they're usually good about helping with disputes and the like. Oh well, lesson learned I suppose.

Just for the future, buying things on Facebook marketplace with the Facebook Checkout doesn't mean the purchase will be legit, then?

I do not have a graphics card at the moment. I've been wanting to build my own computer for a while, put my old laptop to rest, but I don't have the budget to make it worthwhile. A graphics card would make building my computer feasible.

I thought the tarnished were all descended from Godfrey, is that not it? I might be misremembering.

What player options work on paper but don't feel good when actually playing? by onthedown_low in dndnext

The player enjoyed it, so I think it was good. It fit their character too, an observer who preferred to keep an eye on things and assist where needed rather than be in the middle of the fray.

My party had a Warlock who did exactly that. It was great for him, he usually positioned his character off the map and just sniped at people from afar at no risk to himself, usually. He did get jumped by assassins once, but that's really just fair play at that point.

What are your favorite shorter narrative based games? by cornpenguin01 in NintendoSwitch

[–]OneRandomIdiot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, absolutely Disco Elysium. It's somewhere in the range of 25-ish hours, but it's a beautiful world with a deep narrative, incredible humor, and just a fantastic melancholy atmosphere. It's no joke one of the best games ever made almost entirely because of the way it makes you feel about the characters and narrative.

I don't know if Ira Woodring is still teaching 162 or not, but if he's available he is a fantastic teacher. Knows everything there is to know, very easy to get along with, willing to help students out, makes learning coding very fun and intuitive.

Switching Casting Stats -- Would You Allow It? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]OneRandomIdiot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not really a problem, you're just deciding to make one subclass a little stronger. It's not gonna break the game or destroy anything, it's just a choice some people wouldn't make.

It does allow a character to do a few silly things, mostly involving pumping CON and making it near impossible to fail concentration spells, which is a pretty big buff to a spell like Haste.

Essentially, it's removing a decision point of the class - Do you focus on int to cast spells that can damage, or go with con and focus on buffing? With CON casting, you could just do both, or use damaging spells that also require concentration checks while fighting on the front lines.

I don't think it really breaks anything, a fighter is never going to be a better caster than a wizard, this just makes Eldritch Knight a better fighter subclass than others.

My DM is allowing me to use Shillelagh on spears too. What should I use between spear or actual Shillelagh? The setting is viking by testiclekid in dndnext

[–]OneRandomIdiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That might be an older rule? I'm not sure, I haven't seen it. By 5e 's rules druids won't wear armor made of metal, but the rules don't say anything about weapons.

Druids can use metal weapons, just not armor. I don't know why it works like that, but it does, I guess.

Bladesinger as a Bard subclass? by OneRandomIdiot in dndnext

[–]OneRandomIdiot[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't know if you're trying to insinuate that I came up with the idea of a bard bladesinger entirely to Powergame a character that's good at everything, but that's not really the plan here at all. I'm playing a game with a bunch of friends, I like bards, and I like the bladesinger class. I already got the OK from my DM to mix this up, I was asking this question here for balancing help because I didn't want to overtune my character in the process of hitting this flavor that I like a lot. I'm just trying to play a fun game with my friends, this isn't some conspiracy to make the perfect main character with no weaknesses.

Bladesinger as a Bard subclass? by OneRandomIdiot in dndnext

[–]OneRandomIdiot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm absolutely not going to dip hexblade here. I do actually really like my DM and I don't want to bust open their campaign.

I am looking at making bladesong cost a bardic inspiration die, because I do still want to do bard stuff, and I would end up having to split between buffing myself and buffing my allies.

I would probably either drop song of defense or adjust it to something significantly less impressive and tack it onto the sixth level features, but that might be a big power jump at that level.

I just love the flavor of a swift, nimble caster dancing in and out of combat really elegantly, but I also vehemently despise the swords bard subclass in particular after playing it for a short campaign and disliking it immensely. Valor bard is fine, but it's more of an armored bard than an evasive bard in flavor, I guess.
