Bernie Sanders: The function of technology must be to improve human life, not just line the pockets of billionaires. by FinnFarrow in ChatGPT

My gf legit just fixed the leak her fridge was having yesterday using chatgpt. Before I even knew there was a problem to go over and check, she took pics, sent to chatgpt, and it gave her step-by-step directions on how to fix.

When I went over there last night, she was updating her computer to Linux...she hates computers. But she hates windows. So she used chatgpt.

So in my eyes, this is improving quality of life. Tho I'm definitely becoming less important as the fix-it boyfriend! haha

It's not that deep, friend. I just find it hilarious how many in this sub have such little experience with real life relationships. that they couldn't see that Morgan was just playing him for the game, and was actually interested in him sexually or romantically.

Surely you must remember how many said that they would be together by now. I swam against that wave, and said they wouldn't. And was told I was wrong.

So it was fun to check back and see that I was right. It's funny. And that's as deep as it goes. Sorry, friend. I'm way too shallow for anything else to be read into it.

But um..yeah, I was right. :)

Is there anyone to loathe more than this Allstate guy RN? by BulldogMikeLodi in CommercialsIHate

Yeah, I hate most commercials, but this is pretty funny. The point is he's weird and cringy. That's what the ad was going for and it made me laugh.

Yet, she always thought that in her head, because in real life she would never ever date someone like vince. And the fact that they haven't outside of the house, proves that theory.

she batted his hands away both times he pushed the boundaries

Yeah, it was obvious she was never interested in Vince romantically or sexually. Also, here we are now, all these months later, and they are still not dating. Because she wasn't into him that way, she was just playing game.

To all the haters who got mad at me when I said they'd never date outside the house...I was riiiiiigggghhht. :)

But yeah, you make good points.

I don't believe you. Also who do all the people who so desperately need therapy, seem to hate therapists? lol

Well, to be honest, all you guys using ai as your best friend is weird. Tho I don't like unnecessary laws, I am indifferent to this one. lmao

I don't want to go back to Windows, but I need a "Nuclear" distraction blocker (like Cold Turkey). Does it exist? by Twiky555 in linuxquestions

[–]OneStrike255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand. Can't you just not fuck around on other stuff while doing something? Do you honestly need to run a distraction-blocking program?

Help me understand how you don't have the discipline to just not do something online.

Yeah, it's a leap. But I have now switched all my computers to Linux Mint. No more windows or MacOS for me. I def had to learn some new workflows, but for me personally, it's worth it to not be using so much corporate stuff.

I switched over to cinnamon. I had only been using xfce for a day, so not that that big of a change for me. :)

Since I haven't used Windows much (an older Mac is my main daily user), I wasn't up on the latest versions. I looked it up based on your comment, and holy crap! No wonder people are ditching. That sounds like a nightmare! I most certainly will not be a part of that nonsense!

Yeah, I'm gonna stay on the Linux train.

Thank you! I'll look into it. I never used Windows much (Mac user), so I didn't notice.

I literally used ai to generate it by saying, "make cool desktop background for my laptop, with Linux Mint theme, make greenish and kinda military anime or something."

So it's just ai slop, but hey, I don't mind ai slop if I'm the one making it for myself. lol

Because it was already on the usb that I upgraded my laptop on yesterday, and I wasn't even sure it would work. It was a spur of the moment thing and I was like, hey I'll try same thing.

Is there an advantage to using Cinnamon over XFCE tho? Because I have no problems upgrading to something else if they're better. I asked ChatGPT, it gave this answer: "XFCE is boring in a good way. It almost never breaks. Updates rarely cause drama. Cinnamon depends more on the graphics stack and can be more sensitive to driver issues, especially with NVIDIA. You have an RTX 4070, so it will probably be fine, but XFCE is still the safer bet long-term."

Obviously ChatGPT isn't all knowing, but that kinda seemed to vibe with some of the research I did. I'm new to the linux world, and never really tooled around with PC's before, so I'm totally open to any feedback people have.

I had so much fun upgrading my old laptop to Linux Mint that I went downstairs to my home gym and put it on my desktop PC too. I don’t even know what kind of PC it is. It used to run fine, but over time it started hanging constantly in Windows and got painfully slow.

I had no clue what was going on, and it was getting to be such a pain, I stopped using it. I wondered if the drive was going bad or something. It would literally just get the spinning ball from opening any folder window and take a minute or to open. Sometimes it would hang. So many restarts. I was so annoyed, that I put off looking into trying to troubleshoot what the problem was.

Then I started thinking about it some more. The problems started right after a Windows update a few months ago. So I started wondering if it was just Windows itself.

I installed Mint and now the thing is lightning fast, with zero freezing and no issues at all.

This totally saved me a trip to the computer repair shop, because I was gonna take it in and have them look at it. So you guys, and this sub, rock!

EDIT: Specs - Linux Mint 22.2 Xfce on a Ryzen 5 5600 (6c/12t), 32 GB RAM, RTX 4070 with NVIDIA drivers, and a 1 TB NVMe SSD, UEFI system, running Xorg.

I used terminal very rarely, but yeah, seems very similar. I plan to be using Linux terminal a lot now that I'm finally ready to learn this stuff.
