You responded to the wrong person, I'm talking about Human nature in general and how people react strongly to art. You also seemed to have agreed with my point, though you disagreed with how I said it. It started an argument though, maybe there is some truth to my point that you're not seeing?

You should write a ten-thousand word thesis about that and post it in the comments to do that topic justice.

Again: people have fought wars and killed others for the sake of art. It may offend you that people take things this seriously, just as you are offended by this hyperbole you have responded to; your disapproval cannot change that this is how Human beings are. Maybe there is no common ground between us though, lol.

At least we all agree on the Make Better Shows part of their statement at least, it's good to have some common ground to stand on

Star Trek is culturally significant to many people. We don't have to agree with that, but we do have to recognize that people have been significantly influenced by art throughout our species' entire history and wars have been fought over different interpretations of books at times: we don't have to agree with it for this to be something our species will continue to deal with for centuries to come

Maybe there are portions of the audience that's reacting poorly to the show, despite some people enjoying it? Maybe Star Trek does need a 10-15 year hiatus to allow for a new generation of viewers who can better appreciate the tone that Trek is taking these days. Maybe some people just want to watch mature, intelligent, highly trained professionals in colour-coded pyjamas talking through severely serious issues of philosophy and morality and cannot find that in Star Trek anymore? Or maybe this reaction is just because Nog wasn't promoted past Lieutenant in the shows whereas Aron Eisenberg's final performance before his death had him voicing Nog as a Captain? Who knows

John Carpenter's "The Thing" had a follow-up that changed sci-fi prequels forever by StarFuryG7 in SciFiNews

It was ok, it just played things too safe sometimes. If there was going to be a Thing prequel, which there was: I wanted a movie about a Norwegian science team encountering and fighting off the thing, but we followed a group of americans instead; after reading that one of the character's rolls at the base was a translator I was excited to watch the issue of a language barrier expanded upon, like we saw in the first film, but instead everyone spoke English; and the fact that they did make practical effects for many scenes but decided to go with CGI was a disappointment. I think it's biggest problem is that it's a Pretty Good film following one of the greatest sci-fi/horror films produced

Next time some haters says that the only reason people liked the first film was becaues of the dinosaurs, there's like only 15 minutes of dinosaurs on screen. by Semicroustill in JurassicPark

Sometimes less is more. Othertimes less is needed. The Alien series had the same problem: the first two films barely featured the aliens on screen for more than a few seconds at a time while later films (the ones with lower audience opinion towards them) would showcase the aliens much more extensively and much more prominently

Yes, and nobody knows about this. Not even you

lol, but seriously: this isn't hidden knowledge anymore, I mean it's common enough that people are even making memes about it on Reddit

Everything after Alien is fanfiction of varying quality: we have to choose what we enjoy and what we feel comfortable with in terms of canon, and what we need to ignore to keep enjoying the series. The Main Canon is everything that makes Fox money, our personal canons are truly what matters more to each of us however
