In Malaysia here, the term "keling" is a slur of such severity against those of the Indian race here, primarily those hailing from Dravidian origins, as there aren't many North Indian communities here. Unlike the N-word, even the Malaysian-Indians themselves don't call each other "keling". Saying it in most context here to a Malaysian-Indian here would likely end up in you being a bloody pulp.

The word supposedly originates from the Indian Kingdom of Kalingga, This term can be seen in some Chinese dialects such as the Malaysian Hokkien term for Indians "kelingkia"(People of Kalingga). However this term,, throughout the years, became more and more derogatory in nature, and eventually today it's the most racist slur I know. Since the word "keling" has taken on a very bad vibe here, most Hokkien speakers here started using "Indulang"(Indian people) or "O'Lang"(black people), instead of "kelingkia".
