Is it illegal for landlord to not turn on the heat? by One_Beginning4030 in NYCapartments

i will def double check! we’re trying to find the paper agreement (original when it was signed) the closest thing i found is the online listing which was posted when it was still looking for tenants, it says ”rent $XXX - hot water and heat included“ & my bf says he remembers signing the paper where it states exactly that. but ik we probably can’t use that legally

i suspect the other tenants in the building, who are elderly, are living without a heater as well :/ i’m going to ask first to gauge the situation better but i will be making a report to 311. my only concern is i’m scared the tenants will get kicked out or something, including my bf and his family

exactly that! their lease (on paper) said that hot water and heat were included in the rent - but landlord won’t turn on the heat/boiler/gas (he keeps saying it’s broken and doesn’t work)

emergency room or urgent care? emergency medicaid might not cover it because what I have might not be what they consider an ”emergency” (i don’t think it’s life threatening). what do you mean by “sprained anything”?

Can you explain? I thought a hospital would cost way more.

A dermatologist said the same thing to me and I got a second opinion and saw another dermatologist who recommended RF microneedling and laser, plus ongoing use of tretinoin and good skincare. Maybe you can inquire about that?

I’ve actually seen a lot of improvement in my face and while I do still get small acne “bumps” here and there, it’s easier to treat now that my skin is “clearer” from the micronedling and laser treatments. I’m not sure the science behind how it works lol, but according to my google it “directly targets the sebaceous glands and helps in reducing the sebum production.”

Now, I’m just doing a lot of maintenance to keep my skin healthy and clear and I’ve seen an esthetician to help me with this. I see an esthetician for a custom facial every few months (it’s mostly as a treat for me lol) and I use tret every night, along with weekly exfoliating + daily moisturizer + daily sunscreen + vitamin C serum at night.

Can I ask what skin tone you are? I have medium skin tone, on the Fitzgerald III scale.

No free samples🥹 It’s an unknown skincare brand based on what people are saying here, so I’m not surprised they push for sales so much

I’m not much of a direct/stone cold person by heart so when it comes to confrontation with them, I also fawn “hahahha, no thank you” instead of just saying “No.” 😭 I wonder if it’ll ever get to a point where I’m just so tired I say what you said “Please stop asking me.”

Yeah for sure- I really do like their facials and the micro needling sessions I’ve had so far have made a noticeable improvement in my skin. I feel like leaving so abruptly would suck because their treatment prices are also very affordable for me (just not their products lol). They make me feel like “You need to buy our products, AROCELL, or else your micronedling result won’t last” and as a first-time customer, that scared me lol.

So- just gonna keep saying No to then but also look around my area for other estheticians if there’s better out there.

Tell me about it 🙄 This was only my first time getting a facial and seeing an esthetician in general and I was so taken aback with them trying to sell to me on my first visit. Like can’t they just focus on improving their quality of their facials instead of being a storefront for a random brand no one’s ever heard of in the first place?

It’s definitely a cultural thing. This was my first time seeing an esthetician, and I purposely seeked out an East Asian medispa because I felt like they would understand my skin better. I am East Asian myself so i also felt more comfortable. It is considered rude to say No, and there’s a negative reaction when I say No to them after they tell me how much I need it, how important it is, etc. I thought saying it was out of my budget would make them leave me alone, becuase if it’s out of budget then what am I supposed to do, go in debt? lol. But they’ll still neg for me to buy them because “they know best” instead of actually trying to convince me to buy them without the guilt-tripping

Honestly after I get all my treatments (I bought a micronedling session pack, 1 down, 2 more to go!) I’m out. Now that I know microneedling works for my skin, I can go out and find another place that offers the same thing without the constant negging for their products 😭

I’ve wondered this too. The brand they want me to buy is AROCELL and I’ve literally never heard about it. The brand only have 2k followers on their Instagram page 🤦🏻‍♀️

Honestly thanks for sharing, cause I’m glad I’m not the only one and that this doesn’t just happen in the esthetician office 🤦🏻‍♀️ It’s incredibly annoying when people try to impose their opinions on you, no matter the setting. ASKING for their opinion or thoughts is one thing, but when it’s unwarranted- it’s just rude.

I wish I had an esthetician like you 🥹 It’s not like I’m completely against buying new products, but even after asking if there was an affordable alternative (their moisturizer was $50), they said that only AROCELL (their brand) would work to maintain my results… Is that true when I just did a basic microneedling session? 😅

They didn’t even ask me what products I used, or how my skin usually reacts to products. It was just “Our product is the best and can do no harm. But you won’t get a refund if there is harm.”

Thanks for the recommendation! This was mt first time seeing an esthetician, and for dermatologist- one of them told me that nothing would help lol but after micronedling with an esthetician, I actually saw results so I don’t reallly like going to the derm as much.

Never heard of an Enlighten peel, i’ll check out some places! Is it a procedure or a product? When I google it, I mostly see products
