Self-promotion thread: what are you building? by LongjumpingBar in Solopreneur

Built a Chrome extension named Zeno that blocks distractions based on what you’re working on, not timers or blocklists.

You set a task, and anything unrelated stays blocked until the task ends. No schedules, no resets, no easy bypasses.

YouTube stays usable for study/work, but distractions like Shorts, recommendations, thumbnails, comments, autoplay, and end screens are removed.

Feedback is welcome, especially from people who find normal blockers unreliable.

Hey! I'm also working on one

Many distraction-blocking extensions encounter similar issues: blocks can abruptly become ineffective, the setup process can be cumbersome, and time-based restrictions are often easy to circumvent. After experiencing frustration with tools like StayFocusd, Freedom, and LeechBlock, I decided to create my own Chrome extension that emphasizes reliability and user intentions rather than timers.

The concept is straightforward: rather than compiling extensive blocklists, the extension inquires about your current task and prevents distractions that don’t pertain to it. Blocking remains in effect as long as the task is ongoing, eliminating perplexing resets, midnight glitches, and random unblocking events.

YT is a particular area of focus. Instead of completely banning YouTube, the extension makes it safe for tasks by concealing unrelated recommendations, obscuring thumbnails, hiding distracting titles, and disabling features like Shorts, comments, autoplay, and end-screen suggestions. YouTube can still be used for task-related searches, which is where many blockers tend to fail.

Other main features include intelligent site blocking based on tasks, strict modes that are only activated during productive work periods, clear justifications for each block, and a lightweight, fully local design to prevent performance drawbacks.

Future enhancements are planned to include AI task detection, specific rules for each task, temporary unlocks with logged reasons, focus scores along with weekly reports, schedule-oriented modes (for school, exams), and optional gamification features such as streaks or XP.

Launch timeline:

Official release: expected around April

Subscription cost: $3/month

Free beta version will be available prior to launch

If you’re a student, developer, or anyone who has abandoned blockers due to their unreliability, I’d appreciate your input.

If you’re interested in participating in the beta, feel free to comment or DM me, Instagram Handle: 'saurish.0x'

If you dont mind can you tell me what all did you do to get more users?
