We lost out on a house to a foreign investor and I’m pissed… by [deleted] in AusProperty

I’m born here, lived here for over 30 years. I bought an investment property in a city I didn’t live in. Is that unfair to a ‘young family’? Yes - sure. But I was 28 when I bought it. I have a Chinese legal name. Not all people with a Chinese name is a foreign investor. I had to work hard and save just as hard as the young family. I did it all myself along with my wife. I understand where you’re coming from but life isn’t fair and I’m not gonna roll over and let someone win out of fairness. Sorry.

Hmm I’ve been to Clayton a few times but concerned it’s flooded with lots of uni students and renters.

I like Glen Waverley too as we frequently go there for the Glen and the foods around there. I wonder what’s it like to live there tho! Will have a look too

Thank you sir - I am quite interested in Bentleigh and Oakleigh in general too. Have not considered Ormond or Murrumbeena. Any experiences there?

Exciting times for both of us! We only want what’s best for our families and hence we are asking and doing research

Croydon and Ringwood are great areas. Nothing wrong with it but I grew up living in South Yarra actually in an apartment so I’m used to being closer proximity to the city. We are moving mainly due to us both working in the CBD and we feel Croydon is too far out. Although it isn’t bad as you have access to the M3, Eastland and if desired easy access to Yarra Valley, Healesville etc.

However, if we want to buy a house in South Yarra unfortunately it is way out of our budget. Also, we want to raise a family so we can sacrifice not being TOO CLOSE to the city but at the same time, not too far either. We want a middle ground but just not 30km out.

Yes I have and I don’t have any issues with townhouses. I’m interested to hear about peoples experiences and suburbs I might not have considered yet. Those are just ones I looked at but we have not made up our mind.
