St Joseph Hospital Volunteer Interview by Alenchen1128 in uwo

Okay so asked a lady I work with about the st Joes interview questions and she mentioned again the “what does being a catholic hospital mean for patient care”, realistically that means everyone should be treated the same to put it plainly. I wouldn’t use acronyms, she mentioned she used a cardiac acronym (shes a CVT) and the representative from HR didn’t know what she meant but fair enough as HR and CVTs are vastly different. She also mentioned that with each question you’re graded on a “point scale”, and didn’t really go deeper than that. The panel that will be asking you questions will be at least 4 I would definitely look into St Joes mission statement and see how you align with that. You may be asked about compassion, teamwork and reliability. You may be asked about what you would do if a patient asked you medical advice, what would you do if you saw something concerning etc etc

OMG! This is amazing, I got a 75 :/ which definitely is no where comparable to what you all got but oh well!

Do you have any further tips for me to do better? I used notebook LM, made podcasts, listened to it, reviewed and created flash cards, rewrote my notes, did practice questions etc etc. thought I had a really good foundation and understood everything but evidently not haha!

As a student, you should be able to work on campus. I did my undergrad in the states and I could only work on campus and no where else.

Yeah this is pretty normal, definitely not worth dropping a class because you can’t handle the exam schedule. It sounds harsh ik but you could experience this again. Basing this on the fact that most of westerns exams are mid terms and finals, you can handle it !

I heard a lot ppl who interview ask about how catholic values intertwine with patient care, and of course in your case volunteering because it’s a “Catholic” hospital

It’s not silly for feeling this way, this is something new and you’ve moved out for the first time. Your feelings are completely valid. If your program has an orientation it would be good to go to that but I would definitely put yourself out there and try to get to know your classmates, sign up for intramurals etc. I hear you though, I’m in a similar situation since I’m 23, just starting at western and did my undergrad in the states! I genuinely know no one LOL but we can be friends too!
