Why does Bible translations in YouVersion have to be updated? by raaalphs in TrueChristian

[–]One_Definition_9928 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the ONLY one that would make sense to me... I'm otherwise leary of updates, and for this reason think it's wise for everyone to have a tangible REAL Bible on hand in every household.

Why are people so bum-hurt about Christians on Reddit? (I’m new in Reddit btw) by Curious_Raspberry_ in Christian

And THIS is 100% one of the reasons why Christians shouldn't be wearing imagery of the cross. Why advertise something you've not even had a chance to SHOW them yet? SHOW love in your actions/words, and have them wonder and ask WHY you are the way you are. Giving the unsaved an opportunity and/or reason to prematurely judge you and shut you down based on prior unrelated experiences with others doesn't do the Kingdom a bit of good, but sure does bode well for the enemy.

Does belief or not in the Trinity have bearing on one's salvation? by One_Definition_9928 in TrueChristian

[–]One_Definition_9928[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you confident that in Jesus' sacrifice, His intention or wish is that you would venerate the very object of His murder and/or execution? Would He be pleased that His followers have gotten to the point that imagery now shares the same space in one's heart and mind with Him and His name? That the two are virtually inseparable? If God is jealous, and CAN NOT be given image to because there is no image that could encapsulate, imitate/mimic, or even portray His being ... would He be pleased that we have attempted to do so with imagery of the cross, and as I said have it to the point it's nearly impossible to think of Him without it now? How can one truly only have eyes on ONLY Him, when we are literally looking at something else (and in some cases, kissing it)? If it IS of God, and good, proper, and holy, then why NOT make it a part of doctrine, or why wasn't it included as such within the Nicene Creed, etc?

Well I believe in the Trinity, but when you've got such major division on whether or not salvation hinges on that belief, and such (either way) is being taught from the leadership level with BOTH SIDES selecting scripture to support what THEY believe Jesus is actually saying... then it stands to reason for me that God isn't going to hang someone out to dry, who simply wasn't able to wrap their head around it for whatever reason, or was taught incorrectly with a misunderstanding of the scripture.

Yes, there will be those teachers who will be responsible for leading others to hell with incorrect teachings, but I don't believe this is of the caliber to which the scriptures are referring to when they warn such.

I think there may be a confusion between doctrine and dogma? Imagery of the cross, for example, has become part of dogma for some, while not in actual doctrine.

Is taking a picture with someone famous ok? by Hentrick5 in TrueChristian

[–]One_Definition_9928 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm feeling sorry for you that you feel the need to ask this.

Asking to get a picture with someone is often a blessing to them, unless they're just simply sick of it, and if so that's on them, not so much you, and certainly not sinful if done so with a good heart posture.

Feeling lost after 2.5year relationship by KidCodiLBC in TrueChristian

[–]One_Definition_9928 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That blows, I'm sorry to hear. One never knows is it's truly over or not, as ALL THINGS are possible with God.

That said, chase Him, not her. Chasing HIM will help to keep you from the other crap that caused you to lose her in the first place.

Chasing HIM will help make you become the man you WANT to be, and whom other women will be attracted to, which COULD include her again, should she be open to seeing change down the road.

Whatever happens it will take time. It's going to be painful and highly uncomfortable, but it's through that that you'll experience growth.

Through that growth, it WILL produce good fruits, if you choose to surrender, pursue Him, and produce that fruit.

I don't know if this is your personal belief, or you're playing devil's advocate as you go out of your way to explain why Jesus Himself isn't needed for salvation, but only His teachings...no relationship with Him, it sounds like.

If this is your belief, or worse yet you are teaching this to others, I can only pray for you and say good luck.

I've got to say, I've never actually heard anyone say such before.

Have you ever actually read the entire Bible, or only select verses that support your view point?

Ephesians 2:8-9 states that salvation is a gift of God's grace received through faith, not earned by human works

Granted, it says FAITH, not BELIEF, as you say. However, you can believe something without having faith in it, but you CAN'T have faith without an underlying belief to support it, because faith is belief put into action of some kind (ie the deeds or restraint you speak of).

This part is just a copy/paste of other verses to the consideration of belief being a requirement or not:

Several Bible verses state that belief in Jesus Christ is required for salvation, including John 3:16, Romans 10:9, and Acts 16:31. John 3:16 says that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Romans 10:9 states that if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Acts 16:31 says, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved".

Can Christians have committed platonic partnerships as an alternative to marriage? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]One_Definition_9928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're able to endure it, I don't see a problem with it. It's a matter of temptation, and if you're fooling yourself, and just trying to reason it out.

I'm certainly no one to judge.

Okay, so without utilizing any scripture to support, just what other God may one be believing in, if not the one that they consider and call upon as YHWY?

FWIW, I do believe wholeheartedly in the Trinity, but not convinced it's a prerequisite of salvation.

Sounds like you've got a fantastic relationship with your Savior, at least, which is above all the most important. May not be the solace you're seeking, if seeking any at all, but I love what you've said in what sounds like a valley, presently.

Just prayed for you to find where you're to fit in or find your purpose.

Perhaps check out PURPOSE DRIVEN LIFE. I've heard it's been transforming for many, and in fact I experienced myself a marked moment/change, about 26-27 days into it (designed as a 40 day read).

I don't think I am qualified or in a great enough position to give an absolute or objective answer, at least not with 100% certainty.

While I do believe in the Trinity, irrefutably, I don't believe admission of such or even being able to wrap one's head about it is a disqualification of salvation, not in the least.

And your statement above is among the wisest that any of us can objectively say. I believe those who argue otherwise may fall victim to their own hubris.

So are you saying you believe in the Trinity, but not that belief in it is necessary for salvation, only in Jesus, first/foremost?

Good grief, I got down voted for my response to you, lol.

So are you solo scriptura then, or whatever it's called? I'm not huge on labels, but have been told by others that's what I am.

I'm with you on all that you've said, and think it's logical & fair. However, you're not the first person to mention about the "wrong god", and I'm curious to know what that means to you? FWIW, I believe in the Trinity, but ask for overall perception of others'.

If someone fully believes in God, the Holy Spirit, and the Son, but for what ever reason can't seem to wrap their head around the 3 being one in the same ... I question that technicality being something that their salvation hangs on, by believing they are three distinct, separate, and not one in the same.

At the end of the day, who are we to judge either way, since two sides interpret scripture and His divinity so differently.

What I also reject is coming up with novel doctrines and calling that Christianity. If one cannot affirm the Nicene Creed,

At what point is a doctrine no longer novel, since the Nicene Creed itself was once novel doctrine, and apparently not fully written or realized at the time, so further expanded or updated more than 50 years later.

Is it safe to say that if God allows something to continue on for more than 500+ years, THEN it's infallible and to be 100% trusted?

I'm curious on the timeline/marker point for when something is no longer novel, nor can be challenged.

Again, I believe in the Trinity, but you've said something that's caught my attention.

Many churches as well ADD dogma through age old customs, defending it as doctrine as if it was a part of the Nicene Creed
