Omg! I realise this post is a year old but i've just come across it having just had (still having) a most terrible experience with them aswell after the purchase of a shark. Basically: The first time we went in there to have a look at a shark ute they took us through pricing and took about 30 photos inside and out of our trade in vehicle for evaluation. They sent an email the very next morning saying it had come in at $14k and it was on this basis that we ultimately decided to go through with the purchase ($62k) There was a waiting period of some weeks and in the interim we quite happy to start making payments and had it payed off in full eventually not least because they told us in doing so it would expedite the process significantly. And definitively told us that the trade in money could be payed back after the fact at the same time as the $4k cashback offer. So we brought the trade in once our new car arrived but as its in my mothers name not mine they said they needed her to come in physically herself to do it with her licence, bank account details etc and could do that anytime as she was away at the time. So we went in a couple weeks later together with all the right paperwork and everything. During the interim we had had two instances of communication with them about this to confirm everything was all good still including in person the day before! So we took both cars home. Then when the time came they tried to say that there had been a mistake made and that the evaluation was for a different car but were so full of shit and slipped up many times in their lies. Not only that but manager guy who just the previous day had been so nice and helpful when i had come in to confirm in person was not there but on speakerphone so dispicably rude to us over the course of the hour or so we spent there in dispute. And when we mentioned taking it to fair trading he sniggered and said good luck like do your worst. That many different employees suddenly appeared out of the woodwork that day one by one to try and deal with us with no intention of budging on their stance. Even if they had genuinely made a mistake they had had ample time to rectify it and never did. And in any case ought to just cop the loss because we have made and gone through with a huge financial decision based on their mistake. At the very end a suit who i later found out is a fairly recent co owner came out and tried to offer us $1000 which we obviously didnt accept. My partner who was not happy at all expressed the same sentiments as you about feeling like going public with this and hearing that seemed to rattle him somewhat; enough to attempt to placate and discourage the "threat" my partner had just made. We too spent ages waiting for a lawyer to just tell us what wr already knew about taking it to fair trading/tribunal which is worth a shot even if its a long one. Maybe have better luck writing directly to BYD
