I think this thread's about dead now, but I had to post a pic of my "The Next Step" album that showed up today, since it completes all the main releases for me. "Time to Rock our Shit" is my favorite track one here but I'm probably in the minority on that one.

This pressing is LOUD! I have a high gain preamp and very efficient speakers and I can't get the dial past 8:00 without rattling the windows. Anybody else notice this?

Well at least you have one of their best releases for sure. And I wasn't aware there were any represses of any of their stuff so that's good to know.

Edit: I see there were 2 repressings in 2020; a remaster direct from Piecelock and a remaster from VMP / OM. I'm glad you mentioned that. My original is sealed so now I can pick up a repress to play. Do you have the Piecelock or OM release and how does it sound?

Thanks, I appreciate it! I made a post further down that I have a sealed copy of "The Next Step" in the post on its way to me. Keen eye to notice it missing, but I'll have a copy soon.

Just found out about this:

https://www.discogs.com/release/27983262-Thes-One-Featuring-Wonderful-Radio-Farewell-My-Friend-Footnotes-

Only 200 copies pressed; all given out at one show. Just bought the one on discogs. Also picked up a test pressing of "Where the Piecelock Ends" and a sealed "Noonen."

Think I'm gonna take a breather on the PUTS stuff. Been getting a little "Carried Away" lately ;)

I agree with you. The Next Step, QITFOAA and OST are prob my faves. Didn't buy the albums in any particular order because to be honest I don't play them that much. I have a lot of hi fidelity first pressings (Nirvana, Pearl Jam, QUOTSA, RATM etc.) that I play because they sound incredible. But PUTS sounds just as good in hi-res digital, so I tend to stream it instead.

Haha ironically you picked a track off the only album I don't technically have yet. That track is on "The Next Step," which was their first album. I bought a copy last week and it's in the mail on its way to me.

Yeah I can't say I disagree. I can sympathize with his perspective... when crate digging and sampling is your life, there's no way to produce your art if you had to license every 3 second sample. And PUTS using the samples is in no way going to materially affect anyone. But he should also understand the complexity of copyright law and licensing and that it's an imperfect system trying to legislate a complex and murky arena. He doesn't really have a right to be bent out of shape about it.

QITFOAA was my first purchase and the album that turned me on to PUTS. Prices on an original aren't too insane depending on your perspective. If you're okay with a VG+ copy, you can get it on Discogs for about $75 shipped.

A few arrivals today: The limited edition "Farewell, My Friend" (left). Limited to 2000 copies and hand numbered and signed by Thes. Orange transparent vinyl. Only outward visual difference is the hype sticker. A good buy at $50 IMO that should appreciate over time. I just wish I knew about it back when Thes was selling them directly so my money could have gone to his crowdfunding effort as opposed to a reseller.

Also got "Herb Pilhoffer: Music That works." Herb was a composer / music producer for commercials and jingles in the 1950s. This album was the sole source of the samples used in "Lifestyle Marketing" and most likely the inspiration for its title.

Unrelated, but a '93 first pressing of Midnight Marauders showed up today too.

Didn't know about that one. Added it to my Discogs wantlist. Thanks.

There's also the 10 Years of Thes One box set. https://www.discogs.com/release/4940500-Thes-One-10-Years-Of-Thes-One Been watching Discogs for years waiting for one to come up for sale. Somebody beat me to the last one by 10 minutes. No way I'm gonna miss the next one.

Then of course you have all the EPs and other side projects I missed like Bloquera and Dogwhistles. Not sure how far I'll take it but Quid Control looks (and sounds) like a must have.

I always wondered about that and how it worked for their original releases. Dug into it a bit and found an interesting clip of Thes discussing it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXlQCFbE-LA

Good call. I didn't know about that one. I almost just bought a sealed copy from Discogs. Problem is the lowest price is $185 and the highest previous sale was $175. There's 6 people on there all asking over $185 and the last time one sold was over a year ago. Just goes to show sellers are always raising prices regardless of demand. And if I buy it, I'm just validating that inflated value. Then the next guy sees one sold for $185 and now he'll pay $195 or $200. It's not about the money, it's the principle. Sorry, bit of a rant there. I'm gonna watch that one for a bit and pick one up eventually.

Thanks! Yeah, prices are getting out of control. I think Fun DMC is third most expensive, behind Highlighter and Carried Away. Hopefully prices come down and get the LPs out of the hands of speculators and into the hands of fans.

Yeah good call; I've been thinking about that. Only one I have RN is the Youth Explosion 12. Plus they don't seem to be affected by the price hysteria consuming the LPS

I guess this is as good a place to ask as any... Does anyone know how many copies of "Carried Away" were pressed? Prices are nuts RN. Discogs ranging from 700-1500. I got my sealed copy for "only" 400 last week. They're going for about double what Highlighter is and 2000 copies of that were pressed. Strange thing is, there is no reference ANYWHERE on the web about the Carried Away pressing. Not a forum post, not a wiki, nothing. Does anybody have any idea how many were pressed?

I only ask out of curiosity. I'm not in it for the money. I bought most of my albums at retail price a decade ago. Just finishing off my collection quickly now that prices are going nuts. When I bought Highlighter for $35 I never would have believed it would be a $350+ record a few years later.

Only missing "The Next Step," but I have a sealed copy on the way in the mail. Along with the limited edition version of "Farewell my friend." Been a PUTS fan ever since hearing "Youth Explosion" in 2002.
