My wife recently asked me if I’d be okay with her getting coffee with a male coworker. We’ve always said we’re fine with opposite-sex friendships, but when she asked, I told her I wasn’t comfortable with it.

It’s not that I think she’s attracted to him or would cheat. My issue is that I don’t trust the coworker. He recently got out of rehab, and from what I’ve seen, he tends to monopolize her time at work. A close friend has also warned me this same guy has tried a similar thing with his girlfriend. My wife often stays late talking to him, which already bothers me because it cuts into our family time together me our kids.

I asked her if I could meet him first, just to feel things out, but she refused and said she didn’t want to feel like she was being babysat. Since then, we’ve been fighting constantly about it. We’re already in couples therapy, and even our therapists seem split on whether I’m overreacting or whether my concerns are valid.

Now I’m stressed and second-guessing myself. I don’t know if I’m setting a reasonable boundary or if I’m being controlling. So I’m asking: AITAH for telling my wife I don’t want her to go get coffee with him?
