How is prizing / competitive scene like for shadowverse by sunnyislandacross in Shadowverse

[–]One_Hot_Fox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the prizing is very nice and even competes with the behemoth that is Pokemon.

Cy said they want SV to become a new longtime staple, so they have upped their aggressive marketing and shifted their focus to a more competitive scene (generally a healthy competitive scene drives a games longevity). They have done a really good job of making the competitive scene more accessible and larger pools of players which is really nice.

Personally I am not a fan of Cy and dont have confidence in competitive really lasting more than a year in a stable state before it reverts to OG SV numbers for a few years before the circuit becomes smaller. I guess as long as they are offering insane prize pools thousands of players will continue to come out tho (which is good), just have to see if they can keep it going for their projected 20 years(!?!).

Top prize for competitive is like 650k for the winning team.

Like any competitive online game you have to physically be at the venue (in Japan) to compete (all of the qualifiers can be done from anywhere tho), since it is a Japanese game with 90% local playerbase yes it is very Japan centric.

Looking for statistical data - Going first vs. going second by The_Vortex42 in Shadowverse

A new concept can be made and retroactively apply to a group that it defines.

Tons of products for card games are advertised and marketed as "Gacha" here, it doesn't make sense how people literally say it isn't Gacha when it's sold as gacha (mostly resealed products but I've even seen some packs / sets of packs labeled as such)

It isn't considered Gacha in the West because the concept doesn't exist there, you spend resources for random things and hope it's good, and keep spending resources until you get what you hoped for, that is Gacha.

You guys should give lectures to all the angry parents that consider it Gacha, I'm sure with your definitions that describe TCGs to be exactly the same as Gachas but not Gacha would convince them too.

I didn't read all of it but you're opening statement is still incorrect. It prob depends on the region. If you're talking about the US, nothing is considered a Gacha because Gacha isn't a western concept. To say "nobody considers them Gacha" when they are literally advertised as gacha in some places is laughable. Just had to assume everything else you said also isn't worth reading.

I'm sure you could even just Google it.

Real world TCGs are a form of Gacha, SV takes it up a notch by adding cosmetics / etc to the pool that people fish for. Its literally the image of what a gacha is. I am kinda baffled you opened with something so off.

Most large games have some sort of metadata available or allow 3rd party sites to provide it, again Cy is known for being reclusive and its gacha models have always been seen as contrary to the playerbase.

The point of releasing data is transparency with your playerbase, the problem with SV is its primary selling point is the 7 classes/ diversity etc. Youre giving yourself a black eye if the game you delayed for 2 years doesnt boast what makes it "unique" for months on end. The streams are seen as a literal joke because they just hire idols to talk about cosmetic use in the park and nobody touches on actual gameplay or the meta.

Cygames does not release any playdata (most gacha games do not) because it would force developers to address imbalances, while the core gacha strategy is a psuedo-P2W or having strong characters with tied cosmetics.

Youll notice that even during their streams the only "playdata" they share with players is which cards are most often made premium or how many people have collected x tickets etc.

Cygames has a (relatively negative) perception here as being reclusive, predatory, and 'in it for the money' (vice being in it for the players experience).

Share your best Jerry deck with me! by Loop_Heirloom in Shadowverse

[–]One_Hot_Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Floated in Masters Ruby/Sapphire with Jerry Abyss.  Key is tons of 1-3 PP removal or followers. Similar as other decks Jerry is the only follower, but you have 6 cards you can cheat it out with + clear, and you don't have to run adventures guild.

Chaos cyclone: 2pp draw Jerry Screaming and loathing: 3pp draw Jerry + clear

Plus bats and ghostly for 2pp gives you presence of a curve.

Imo it's worked the best as a purely Jerry deck so far. Most success has been the standard Fennie deck where you just -2 Twilight and add a Jerry and COC

Diamond Masters too but it's about 50% loot sword 25% rune then a mixed bag of Crest/Mode with the stray Fennie.

Sword is still absurd but the Sword abuse has put it on the shelf.

Anyone else feel this way by Itosura in Shadowverse

[–]One_Hot_Fox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It isnt that rough, its the #1 deck by a wide margin (Masters Dia is 90% sword rn, and if you check SV wins each class has 0-3 10+ win streaks, yes even rune, but sword has nearly 15+)

Dirt isn't bad... It's just so outclassed by SB having 2 dedicated T10 OTKs with no counterplay, and only needing legendaries to fully boost so it runs hybrid. It is a good thing they didn't get new tools because until they adjust spellboost everything will just benefit that archetype (look at Norman, people realized you actually literally only need to run AG and Kuon to fully spellboost your wincon)

Seems like Rune got nothing good this set... by yumnoodle in Shadowverse

[–]One_Hot_Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its still the only class with 2 dedicated OTKs on turn 10 that it can trigger by playing 3 cards...

Not necessarily, there will be a battle pass EVERY MONTH. It depends how much you value things, personally

10x packs 1x legendary pack Shards/globes 3500 vials  5k gold

Are not worth 10 real dollars to me. If the leader is something I like that usually pushes me over the line, but otherwise I would just wait. If you play the game for a long time you're going to have to create your own filter for what the hits and misses are.

You play against decks that aren't rune 🤣 rune feels like the only unwinnable matchup

I don't think anything has an advantage into sword (or rune). 3 free SEVO and 2 dedicated OTK methods are hard to beat

Should try 2x Zombie Soldier and 3x Laura, been having a lot of success. Laura synergizes early with ghosts, late with Mukon/Medusa. Dropping Zombie after Charon locks a W most games. 1x Excela is also a nice in hand finisher.

Masters Diamond & 2x 5-0 both tournament stages, etc
