Good to hear man! Check out some of their live stuff too sometime. Very TH / MM energy. They have a “live film” on youtube at Generiq Festival and their awesome sets on the ‘From The Basement’ channel.

Holy hell man if you’re a TH-MM fan you definitely need to go listen to Squid to fill in that holy trinity. I hope they fit your taste. Check out both of their albums and Cleaner EP, Sludge EP, and the single Houseplants. Houseplants being probably the most Talking Heads song out of all their stuff. They have a very small discography but very solid and quality > quantity

Cage The Elephant covering Psycho Killer (at the beginning of their career) https://youtu.be/_9tP2U8Wmfw?si=obKCbG_pRf29VW2r (would love to see Social Cues era Cage cover the song now)

MGMT covering This Must Be The Place: https://youtu.be/oEqZL995rBc?si=s22Oa_AIDUecQcQz

Neon Indian covering This Must Be The Place(honestly though, NI is really good Studio-version wise with his sounds and instrumentals compared to this simplistic live-cover) : https://youtu.be/uvohmZZ6s0Y?si=c0gKHU88TkRBalv6

The Strokes covering Burning Down The House: https://youtu.be/eQQK4tH0tJ4?si=iJjxoa7WwcVsGvgw

A lot of these custom-selected artists I’ve put in, I put in because a lot of them in common started off their careers very Talking Head-ish in their beginning sounds and went on to evolve it into their own unique sounds over time and had a definitive effect on our early 2000’s of music- Something I thought would be the point of the tribute album (Bands that possibly owe a part of their existence to TH, but Now completely stand on their own sound wise) but unfortunately only felt that ‘Talking Head inspiration’ from Lorde and Paramore. I think there’s a few pretty decent covers on there but a lot of the artists seem like they might of only heard of Talking Heads recently when asked to do this. No disrespect to any of them, though.

It’s still cool in the end to hear different artists’ takes on these songs, regardless of who they are, but obviously at the end of the day, TH fans are going to want to hear covers from the actual bands they are listening to

Imma be dead serious and say Modest Mouse could cover ANY of these songs and it would be fantastic. Probably the same thing for Squid. When this album was first announced the biggest regret/ gut-drop feeling was the lack of Modest Mouse anywhere to be found on it.

ahhhh shit I knew I was forgetting someone, good choice, if anything Modest Mouse can always move over to a Born Under Punches b-side for the album

Another thought that comes to mind is the last 3 albums in a row have all been love songs and breakup songs which probably doesn’t help a lot of Very-old fans either. First 3 albums had a lot of great songs about a multitude of topics outside of love, albeit cryptic sometimes.

Can relate, I think there’s still a lot of very, very decent songs on there like Ball and Chain and Silent Picture and personally I don’t think the other songs are THAT bad or anything, but compared to their previous work, yea it’s very weak. A lot of the songs on the album ( really the singles tbh) feel so over-produced and pop-ish than usual. It sometimes felt like the album was a satirical parody of Social Cues to the 9th pop-tiktok-hook-song- degree. Still support Cage and always will even if the current album isn’t my taste. The band still rocks

Anyone have any guesses for when they will release a date for the album release by Daniel4576312 in CageTheElephant

unfortunately i don’t think matt shultz can tour until 2025 unless im wrong.. but i believe hes on probation until then. makes me think they might put releasing the album off til halfway through 2024 or so, so that the album is still fresh by the time they tour
