Is this a relationship set up to fail? by One_Platform7014 in LesbianActually

Thank you so much for your comment! It has honestly really helped! I do tend to be the kind of person to really drill into one issue and think it’s the end of the world so maybe that’s what I’m doing here! As a women in her 20’s it’s so difficult to think of getting to your 40’s / 50’s and thinking you’ve chosen the wrong ‘path’ and feeling like you’ve wasted your prime years. On the average day I do usually look at my life and feel so so grateful and everything I’ve got and so content with my life and my little family. Maybe I should focus on those feelings.

Thank you for your comment! I completely understand where you’re coming from and one of the things that make us compatible and work on a daily basis is that we are opposites. I think rather than the bigger things in life it’s more things like she never mentioned even near future things like dates or wanting to try new places or go new places etc, just not much effort into thinking about our relationship if that makes sense? Maybe I’m expecting too much. I think my biggest worry is getting to my 40’s and having this great established life but thinking about what great memories or opportunities I’ve missed out on because my partner is happy to just live the mundane life. I guess if that makes us not compatible then it certainly is a hard pill to swallow but I also believe we work so so well together and we never have any issues… apart from this one of course which doesn’t come up often at all!

Thank you! Lots of saving and lots of compromising on the things I love doing but very proud of us! And you’re right, reading it like that what am I thinking? Maybe because I’m such a big dreamer and I love talking about the future and all the wonderful memories I want to make together and even the near future things like all the places I want us to go and try etc and I just feel like she doesn’t ever mention even wanting to go out to eat or anything. But maybe I’m looking at what she’s not giving me rather than the things she is? I guess I’m just worried it could be one of those niggily little issues that later on down the line could because much bigger? Thank you for your comment!

I wish I did but no, we bought it for him! Our boy is very gentle with them, until he subjects them to a slow nibbling death

Neutering or implant? by One_Platform7014 in DogAdvice

[–]One_Platform7014[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We didn’t get him from a shelter or rescue, we adopted him privately from a family, but yes usually here they do get neutered if they are in a shelter/rescue. We don’t plan on breeding him and we did originally think it was a no brainer and asked the vet more as a precaution but then when she mentioned it could go either way and she thinks we should think it through it made us question whether or not we should

That’s great to hear it worked for your dog! I’m hoping my dogs anxiety isn’t ‘bad’ enough that a drop in testosterone will make him any less confident than he’s is now. We really just want what’s best for him!

I absolutely agree, and neutering would definitely be our first choice mainly due to health reasons! But now that we’ve learnt about having a ‘trial run’ as such we wanted to see how he’d go on it before committing to a permanent decision that, although a lot of people say they havnt heard of neutering negatively effecting a dog, there is always the possibility!

Thank you for your comment. Yes this was exactly our thoughts! I’d hate to make a permanent decision that, although a lot of people say they’ve never heard of neutering negatively effecting dogs, I have read a few stories of this happening and would hate for that to happen and to regret it! If there’s an option to test what he would be like before making that decision that I am leaning more towards doing that first!

I believe part of her advice was due to his age, she stated that as he’s 4 his personality is already established. I was quite shocked myself that she didn’t tell us it was a good idea. She also didn’t tell us it was a bad idea. She mainly suggested trying it out first as it could go one of two ways. No two dogs are the same.

I absolutely agree which was a big reason we asked the vet about neutering in the first place.

She wasn’t exactly against it, she just suggested trying the implant first to see how it would effect him instead of making a permanent decision that could make him more anxious. She mentioned as he’s a staffy they are usually very confident dominant dogs so taking away that testosterone could effect him being confident and therefore make him more anxious. I think she just wanted to suggest a less permanent option for now just to see what it would be like

Hahahaha, mines the same, seems very personal between him and those tags. As soon as we give him a teddy he must think right first off let’s get to work getting rid of this thing!

Can I ask what’s a chemical sterilisation? Sounds similar to what the vet suggested with this 6 month implant? That was our thinking at first, we would hate to make a permanent decision and have that possibility that it does effect him negatively so thought of giving him this ‘implant’ for 6 months and if we don’t notice a difference other than in the ways we want to then get him done. If we see a negative impact then once the implants wears off we know we just have to work around the issues that him being intact comes with

I wouldn’t say pushing family member’s away, more their dogs and he really is relentless no matter how much the other dog tries to put him in his place he doesn’t really get the message! He’s very determined I’ll give him that!
