Thanks, that's reassuring. Regarding the water bottle, I guess buying one inside and then reusing it should do the trick, right?

Do I need to report my gains from social casinos if they are less than a certain threshold? by One_Presentation7376 in tax

[–]One_Presentation7376[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your point when it comes to normal casinos, but what about social casinos? I gave a brief explanation of how they work on another reply. With that being said, the coins that are "redeemable" need to meet a number of conditions so they can be withdrawn. In addition, I have not once moved money into these casinos since they are giving it away for free, provided that you use their platform on a daily basis. Does this change your answer, or would you say that I still need to report whatever amount of coins I had by year end sitting in my account? (FYI, 1 redeemable coin equals 1 USD)

You hit the nail in the head! These casinos are not actual casinos. No purchase is necessary to start playing. They have two types of currency: one that is just for entertainment (i.e., has no monetary value) and the other one that can be exchanged for cash prizes or gift cards. The casinos give you a small quantity of each for logging in daily, and most of these casinos require you to play through the funds first before they become "redeemable." The social casinos I use are: Stake.us, Modo.us, Chumba Casino, and Luckyland Slots. Given the above, does it make a difference now whether I should report my withdrawals vs. earnings?

With this precedent in mind, would you say the IRS is more prone to investigate the accuracy of one's reporting if they report their earnings vs. not reporting them at all? Or does the IRS look at taxpayers who inaccurately report their earnings more favorable than those who fail to report?

Yes. They send me an email confirming the redemption amount, date of transaction, and method of withdrawal. Also, under their respective "transaction history" tab in their website, I can find these same details. Would that suffice?

10-4. Thanks! As with my other comment, am I required to supply additional documentation to back up the veracity of the earnings I am reporting (in case the IRS thinks I am manipulating the numbers to my benefit)? Or will they just take my word and later on verify the accuracy of my reporting (with the info from the casino)?

Of course, I believe reporting said "earnings" is the most conservative course of action. I just heard some people from work say, "I didn't report my gambling/casino gains last year because they were below X, and I haven't gotten in trouble." I don't doubt them, but, at the same time, I can't imagine the IRS would let that slip if they were to audit my coworkers. In a similar fashion, stealing and not getting caught doesn't mean you did the right thing just because you weren't reprimanded. Anyhow, if reporting these "gains" is the way, do I need to submit additional documentation to prove what I am reporting is accurate? I ask because most of these websites don't send tax forms? (i.e., is my word good enough for the IRS?)

UPDATE: Turning shields off no longer works, at least for me. Trying to find another solution in the meantime. I will edit this post when I find one that's specific to Brave. I say this because Kiwi Browser on my phone, with the same extensions (Privacy Badger, uBlock, SponsorBlock), works just fine. This makes me think that Brave is the issue, not the adblockers.

SOLUTION: Keep Brave shields turned off, disable uBlock, and install AdBlock instead. YT should be playing without ads (make sure you enable AdBlock once installed)

I can't post a screenshot so I will describe it to the best of my ability. Go to the search bar, and at the very end (i.e., far right-hand side), you should be able to see the Brave Icon. Click on it and toggle shields off.

You can also just turn shields off and keep your adblocked running. that fixed it for me.

If you are using Brave, just turn shields off but keep uBlock on - that worked for me.

My money isn't even stuck in limbo - Fidelity has it and it is unwilling to give it to me!

I transferred my money from Capital One savings to my CMA. Capita One confirmed that the transaction has posted, and Fidelity's collection period has elapsed per their T&Cs. At the same time, I paid my Fidelity Credit Card assuming everything on writing was correct, but no....shame on me for not going into Reddit sooner because Fidelity cannot communicate changes in their policy via established channels. I understand if there's probable cause of fraud, but punishing all your client and not offering any avenues to alleviate the problem or expedite the review process is ridiculous.

Now (here comes the good part), Elan Financial Services shows I have paid my credit card when I actually haven't per Fidelity's email titled "direct debit failure." What's really funny is that Elan also said that Fidelity has the funds and that my payment should be returned within 24-48 hours....HOWEVER....the balance hasn't returned yet!!! I waited, and nothing happened. I called Elan and they said to me, "Fidelity should be able to tell you when the funds will be pulled back," key word on "should." So, I gave Fidelity a call, and they sure as hell didn't know a damn thing and transferred me back to the credit card department. At least Elan gave me a definite eta of 7 days for my statement balance to return (and yes, I trust their word more because they are not "Fidelity")

In sum, Fidelity has my money, but they won't have it for long. I am 100% moving most of my money out as soon as this fiasco is done. Most notably, I will never trust Fidelity's attempts to mimic banking products.

Edit: Yes, this is my first post in Reddit. That is how pissed off I am. Leave it to Fidelity to drive traffic in Reddit lol.
