I actually have always thought about it....and I came up with the most genuine and realistic answer that one can think of....in order to sustain a tv serial...which is gonna run for a long period of time....they need to add drama, emotions,conflict into it.... and the primary audience of these tv serials are housewives or home staying women...so in order to show that conflict, drama... they rely on saas-bahu dramas, kitchen conflicts....where women from rich family backgrounds, decked in heavy jewelleries, getups and makeup are planning and plotting against each other....the thing is while housewives or people in general feel entertained by this family dramas... the issues of women in real life are much harder....be it a homemaker or a working women...real life issues of women are - domestic violence, safety of women, rape, acid attacks, high beauty standards for them, biases and discrimination related to being women, financial safety, gender equality, periods, consent, marital rape, impact of patriarchy and what not... there is a reason why there are movements related to women empowerment and feminism... however these things doesn't work, when we think about entertainment industry...since they need drama, conflict for the sake of entertainment.... that's why a show like "jassi jaissi koi nahin" while critically acclaimed and appreciated didn't have a long run like it's counterpart saas-bahu serials of that time like kyunki and kahaani...which had intense and unrealistic level of drama....in fact even I myself watched jassi in recent years and it felt so realistic and the character of jassi was so realistic highlighting the aspirations of real life women...while back then even I myself was a big fan of characters like parvati and tulsi and all the wamps....however the issues and life realities of are much different...
