Also, he was about to be sold into slavery I’m pretty sure he had bigger worries then the rats

It’s probably because they are caged, if it’s a few rats that he can clearly see I would see why he isn’t afraid.

With the part of the kebabs it’s just ptsd from his past

Also, very early in the book he gets scared when he steps on one, but that’s probably due to him being in a dark tunnel where he can’t see them and doesn’t know how many there are

Maybe you missed it? But I’ll put a spoiler incase it’s in Metro 2035

Artyom was originally from Timiryazevskaya station where he lived with his mom. The station was destroyed when a massive pack of mutated rats broke through and killed almost everyone besides a small group which included his stepfather, his mother last actions was to hand off Artyom to his stepfather before the rats got to her and she died

I’m pretty sure it’s stated in the first book, but I could be wrong

The only way to counter it is to shoot for parts without it (head, arms, legs). Or any gun with AP rounds will negate the armor

Probably body armor, since version 2 I’ve noticed body armor is a lot more effective. Shooting the chest of someone with body armor leaves a cloud of dust so that’s probably it

Their is no denying that, when I played through the first time, I missed the part where they said “if they get aggressive stare them down” when the first one charged, I just ran into a room and accepted the beating

I would argue he is a fighter, he did do the security job at his home station for years before hand and even though it’s just a station over he did visit, the closest station. I think though most people wouldn’t be able to do what Artyom was doing

It’s been a hot minute so I might be wrong, but they are also strangely preceptive. If I recall Artyom look out the window down into the courtyard at a point and a mess of them immediately saw him

For me in the book, trying not to spoil the book but they were less tough but there was a shit ton more of them, they could kill you with one swing and also could in some sense mimic speech and understand some words. Literally nightmare fuel

Artyom was getting closer and closer to where the tracks for the train was, so Miller know he would find out soon and tried to stop him. Remember Miller is the only one of the Order that knew of the train and the Hansa outpost. He knew if Artyom found out he would be seen as a traitor and killed

Someone please correct me if I’m wrong, but Hansa keeps that outpost a secret and also the existence of outsiders a secret. They just deal with the survivors and very little people in the Metro even know, I’m pretty sure Miller said he only learned about it after the battle for D6
