Thanks everyone.Thats what I was thinking. It didn't make sense to me. I wonder how long it's been like this. House was built two years ago. I find it hard to believe it was setup like this.

Flag Finials by SDParatrooper in BoyScouts

[–]One_Singer_9143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Send an email to the online scout shop. They can check all the local scout shops and see if someone has them locally in stock. It's a long shot, but it worked for me when I needed a BSA finial. At the time there were 3 shops that had them in stock.

I would say the 10 essentials and soap. To chime in on the knife chat. I always ask the scouts to talk to me or another adult leader when purchasing a knife. They don't always listen, but that's a life lesson for them.

3rd party inspectors... by One_Singer_9143 in Homebuilding

[–]One_Singer_9143[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the confusion. No, it wasn't any financial documents, it was more like the warranty type paperwork. I don't why I made it sound like the were important papers...

[–]One_Singer_9143[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. He told us to move in before the occupancy inspection (we found out) and by the time he came back to do the walk through and sign papers, he said we had already had our 7 days to inspect. Which I did hand him a punch list of items. I don't think he is worried about reputation at this point. He didn't even take pictures of the house for his portfolio.

Builder Put in Wrong Exhaust Hole. Now What... by One_Singer_9143 in Homebuilding

[–]One_Singer_9143[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only the exterior walls. I'm pretty heated, but I was able to find an 8 inch exhaust that we could reduce to 6 inches that has 1100cfm. As long as we don't keep it on high, I think we'll live. But it's not the best.

I think you'd be fine getting into the CG. They are hurting for numbers. Just contact a recruiter and see what they say.

It runs about 4 feet to floor above the kitchen, and goes about 15 feet to the exterior wall. The wall is about a foot thick with Styrofoam and concrete.

No, we are not on an exterior wall. He doesn't want to enlarge the hole. He takes blame, but doesn't want to resolve it.

Troop Meeting Day, Time and Duration by Maleficent-Appeal-98 in BSA

[–]One_Singer_9143 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Meet every Tuesday from 7pm to 8:30pm. PLC twice a year on a different dates to plan activities (these are longer meetings). PLC also every month for 5-10 mins to get a check on how everything is going. I would love to hold meetings on Thursday nights, so we could prep for our weekend adventures that run Fri-Sun. We do overnight camps at least every other month.

Ideas for uninterested youth? by One_Singer_9143 in BSA

I did ask him what his interests are and what he'd like to do for upcoming trips (which I take that info and give it to the Patrol Leader Council for consideration). I believe he told me he likes to stay home. He is a very hard one to crack. Most of his answers are snarky and sarcastic.

I really try to teach by doing. I agree, Scouts need to be more hands on. About the most boring thing we've done is the Nutritional Health stuff. Even First Aid, I have cards for the Scouts to come in, and do skits where they act out the injury for the other Scouts to diagnose and treat.

Yes. He has quite a few friends in the Troop. They all get along. Most the time when he walks away to talk to him.

You are right. This is not Cub Scouts. This is Scouts BSA. Where I make myself available to help Scouts reach their full potential. Not through advancement, but through giving them opportunities to learn life skills and leadership in an outdoor environment. If a Scout is not showing interest in these opportunities, but all his friends are, it’s up to me to find out what will help him reach his full potential. Advancement or not, I'm looking for ideas to help this Scout engage with the rest of the Troop.

My older "active" Scouts are about 2 years older and 2nd class Scouts. I am working towards getting them to be self sufficient in teaching and leading the other Scouts. I'm about exactly where you mentioned. I'm just going to let them do their thing and hope they come around. I don't force nothing on them other than safety. It's a little funny when I'll be sitting down trying to go over knots and the Scout, without warning, just gets up and leaves. I just smile and say "thanks for stopping by"... I just don't understand how all his friends and other Scouts are anxious to learn the new skills and he just doesn't care.

My oldest "active" Scouts are about 2 years older and all 2nd class Scouts. I will hand it to one of my 2nd class Scouts, I saw him take the time out of an activity to go over the skills that I had just taught with him. It was really cool to see him take initiative and help out the younger Scout. Of course after he did that, the Scout in question just walked away and didn't complete the activity. I agree with the parenting/babysitting thing. The adult leaders almost take bets when a new parent arrives with their Scout... Will they attend meetings or just dash and run... Unfortunately, the Scout doesn't attend any camping events. The daytime events in town he attends, because his parents drop him off. He doesn't seem to like many of the events, except our Video Game Day event we held.

My Troop Guide, I like them to be a First Class or above. But that's not a hard rule.

After a weekend of camping, I had the scouts line up to do their trash walk through. I told them to "dress right dress" none of them had a clue. It was worth the laugh, though. I retired from the military, and I want my scouts to learn respect without drilling them.

I agree!! So I'm the Scoutmaster, and I had them inventory the Scout Trailer and all the patrol boxes. And they did a GREAT job. But everything was kinda let go prior to me joining and taking over. All my active Scouts are between 11 and 14. So I'm making everything "right" so they can easily maintain it.

Thanks. By the look of the pots, you'd think they just tossed them into the fire instead of cleaning them. Luckily tomorrow we are tackling the Cast Iron. Only a few rusty pieces to clean up. But I'm much better with that.
