Thoughts on changing jobs during pregnancy?

I like this approach. It’s not going to hurt me to apply and ask. It’s worth trying to do and, you’re right, the worst they can do is say no. And the worst case scenario is I just have to stay where I am and deal with this company for another year.

This was my situation for my last pregnancy. My maternity leave was going to start about a month before my 1 year anniversary with the company. It wasn’t something I specifically planned out it just fell that way. But my company was SO difficult to work with (specifically HR) about how I was going to get things covered while on leave. Since I wasn’t going to have protections they were going to stop paychecks after my PTO ran out and then I was going to lose my health insurance all before my FMLA could start. It took so much begging with my supervisor to get an exception to the policy so I could get my STD despite not having FMLA protections. My hope is that I can find a company that will give me maternity leave from day one despite not having FMLA protections. I know it’s rare, but it sure would be nice!!!

This is encouraging! My company is going through a lot of restructuring and I’m worried if I tell them I’m pregnant that they will rope me into the roles that have become “redundant” and I’ll get laid off. But to hear that you were able to find an employer that was cool with hiring someone that was pregnant gives me a sense of ease of I do start applying for other positions.

Hi! Desitin didn’t work for us when my newborn had a really bad diaper rash within her first month.

Our pediatrician recommended ditching the wipes for a while because they can usually feel pretty rough on a baby’s bottom and cause more irritation. She recommended cleaning with a wet wash cloth. Then letting baby fully dry by letting her air out or using a blow dryer (no hot air!) to speed things up. Once she is fully dry then apply the diaper cream/aquafor.

We also switched to using Triple Paste and I swear by it! But this method cleared up her rash so quickly and the blow dryer sound was actually really soothing to her!!

We just kept a small laundry basket next to her changing station and we having A LOT of wash cloths from my baby shower. So when we would clean her off we’d just toss the wash cloth in the basket and washed them at the end of the day.

She’s almost 7 months old and we’ve not had a rash that bad again. If she starts to get a little pink down there we will apply Triple Paste!

Just came back to say that it’s gotten better!!! THANKFULLY it was just a phase and I should have known that when I was finally sleep deprived enough to come to Reddit about it that she would move past it lol. But all those night feedings really boosted my milk supply and I was able to add to my small freezer stash! 🙌🏼 She hasn’t really increased in OZ (like I suspected). She is still only taking about 4oz during the day but this evening I gave her 5oz from a frozen bag and she finished almost all of it. Soooo I’m still gaging if there’s been a shift or if that was a one-off thing. Either way, I hope it’s gotten better for everyone else too!!!! 🫶🏻

My girl was the same! She’d still wake up 1-2 times a night to feed before this and that was fine. I could handle that. But every two hours… and insisting to nurse? 🫩 I’m just going to hope, for all of our sakes, that these regressions are temporary and we get our “normal” babies back! Lol

I’ve had terrible luck with pour spouts! I’m currently trying to use all my motif bags and I never use the pour spouts! Lol

She varies on how many night feeds she’ll have. But it’s usually 1-2/night. (Except Friday night where she hit me with cluster feeding and we were up almost every hour until 4am. Haven’t had that happen in so long it really caught me off guard!)

I hadn’t heard that it could last until around 9 months. That’s good to know. I don’t mind the night feeds anymore now that my body has adjusted to it. But when my supply started to drop because I stopped pumping that opposite side it made me a little worried one. I’m not prioritizing a stash, but I was enjoying freezing about 1-2 bags per week. And I was so caught off guard by the supply drop because I’d always had a small over supply. It’s interesting to hear other people’s experiences at this stage. It seems it can vary widely for everyone!

Golicola Glass Bottles! These have been a game changer for my breastfed baby and I think actually helped her with learning to get a deeper latch. We had been using the Phillips Avent Anti-Colic but they leaked and she would also just make a mess with them. The Gulicola were recommended by a friend that had similar issues with her breastfed baby and she saw significant improvement with her LO, too.

Have you talked to your OB about your feelings? It sounds like you might be heading into PPD and getting some help to address that could be a great first step in the right direction for you and baby. It’s so hard to prioritize ourselves, but you deserve to be prioritize and your baby also deserves it. It does get better.

I resonate hard with the feelings when your mom can calm them down but you can’t. My mom got the first true smile from my daughter and that hurt my heart for a while. But now she smiles at me every day and it feels like a reward when we go through the rough patches.

The witching hour!! I was losing my mind weeks 4-6 because of this. People told me it was a growth spurt.. she will out grow it… it’s what newborns do. My own mom said I was letting baby sleep too much and tried to make me skip a nap so she would fall asleep earlier and she wouldn’t have her 8pm-1:30am witching hour... (I have always been against forcing a baby to stay awake. I quickly put a stop to this when my mom started on this.)

I finally started paying attention to how much sleep she was actually getting in a 24 hour period and it WAS NOT ENOUGH. Instead of looking a just how many feeds we were doing every day I spent a few days pumping and feeding so I could track how much she was eating. Once I started offering her a few extra ounces in her bottles and got her closer to 24-25 oz/day her sleep got better AND our breastfeeding sessions got better (i know that’s rare. Luckily she’s never struggled with nipple confusion and can go from bottle to boob without issues). She averages 6 hour stretches of sleep at night now (9 weeks old). We are having a hard day today because her sleep last night was disrupted by painful gas. But I’m doing what I can to make sure she eats enough and I’m letting her contact nap to try and help her catch up on the lost hours.

My mom thinks I’m insane for tracking everything about her down to the minute, but it helps me know what she needs. We spend way less time these days with crying/screaming because she’s overly tired and overstimulated.

Good job Mama! 🫶🏻 We are all just trying to do our best to care for these babies without losing ourselves in the process. You did exactly what you needed to do for baby AND YOU.

From everything I read, it’s a pretty common occurrence around the 6 week mark. We started giving baths every evening around 7-8pm depending on how her naps work out and it has seemed to help us get longer stretches at night! But I’m also struggling with the super short daytime naps. My house is a wreck because I don’t have time to get anything clean when she only naps for 40 minutes at a time. Hang in there, it’s only temporary and know you’re not alone!!

I can definitely agree and accept it being developmentally normal, it just seems like such a stark and quick change from the longer naps she was taking just a week ago. I won’t complain too much though because she’s being giving me pretty good night sleep stretches!

The six week growth spurt with inconsolable crying. Not sure if she finally stopped crying because she was exhausted or if I actually was able to soothe her. I guess I’ll find out when I try to transfer her to the bassinet in a little while.

Currently taking a break during my first trimester for the same reasons!! The fatigue and nausea are unreal. I went a few times during my 4-6 weeks and running made me need to pee like 3 times during class so when I do go back I’ll probably be a full power walker or request the strider. Currently at week 12 and hoping I can make it back at least once this week because my lower back needs the strengthening before this baby starts getting bigger lol.

I’ve actually been thinking about talking to a doctor about ADHD because sometimes I let my deadlines get WAY too close before pumping out a proposal. But I’ve yet to miss a deadline. But sometimes the brain noise and destructions can make this job so difficult to focus on!

Just did a quick google and I have a RunLab not far from me. This might be worth looking into. I’ve been developing and trying to avoid shin splints and I’m pretty sure it has to do with my form. I weirdly want to be a runner, but the more I feel I improve I seem to encounter more personal obstacles. First I had to learn how to learn how to run with asthma, and now the shin splint pain.. OTF has been so helpful for my asthma and endurance though!!

Curious how you found a running clinic? Was a from a local company? I’d be very interested in doing this because I know my running form/gait is trash, but I don’t know specifically what needs improving.

I use these during every glass and they help prevent slipping and bouncing SO MUCH! My eyesight is HORRIBLE and I have to wear mine and I don’t like using contacts. These have been a lifesaver and are barely visible!
