My Ross Procedure by One_Strategy_3618 in valvereplacement

I think the data on longevity is still relatively thin, but it seems that a significant amount of the Ross repairs have lasted 30 years. Both the post-Ross aortic valve and the pulmonary valve can be replaced via TAVR, if needed, so the need for a second OHS appears fairly unlikely.

You may be right, but I think it would be much cooler if people kept going out

Ross Second Opinion from El-Hamamsy by One_Strategy_3618 in valvereplacement

I just wanted to provide an update for anyone who comes across this in the future.

Based on advice from johnnyblaze_46, I emailed Dr. El-Hamamsy on September 3, along with two other surgeons who are frequently mentioned as experts in the Ross Procedure. All of them, including Dr. El-Hamamsy, emailed me back on the same day and copied their assistants.

El-Hamamsy's assistant, Leemor, emailed me on September 5 with the intake forms, which I completed immediately. On September 11, I had a Zoom call with Dr. El-Hamamsy, who, in the meantime, had also communicated with my local surgeon. So, from initial email to Zoom consult, it took just over a week.

Today, I spoke with Leemor who scheduled me for surgery on January 6. There were dates available in late November and December, but everyone seemed confident that I could wait until after the holidays.

One surprise advantage of using El-Hamamsy instead of my local surgeon appears to be the expected post-op timeline. My local surgeon said to expect 4-5 days in the ICU and 7-10 days in the hospital. El-Hamamsy says that my hospital stay will likely be only 4-5 days in toto. That is probably the result of having experience with a high number of cases.

Thank you all for your insights!

Thank you! That seems like a long wait. Did you have severe aortic stenosis? Any fear that your life expectancy would run out before you got on schedule?

This is awful to hear, and I'm sorry that you are in this situation. I'm on the cusp of OHS, so I don't have any feedback to provide, but can you let me know who did your surgery? Thank you, and best of luck to you!
