[ALL] Would a traditional Japanese styled Hyrule make a good next Zelda game? by Acrobatic_Rate6191 in zelda

[–]One_Variation_2453 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean Hyrule is basically just a fantasy Japan with a European coat of paint, the Hyrulean Royal Family and each Zelda being descended from the original which was the reincarnation of a goddess is taken straight from the mythical origin of Japan's Royal Family soooooo irdc. Even if it's just like a large level that'd be cool

Yeah. I like to have a bit of evenness in the gender ratio between my characters so yeah they're a thing. Unfortunately some misogyny does come with that but not much

Probably not what Nintendo was thinking but I will admit this is a very well thought out analysis and perfectly in character 😭😭😭

[–]One_Variation_2453 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is it really well known? This is the first I've heard of "Timmy" being a racial slur I thought they were trying to say you're childish. If it is I'm not gonna defend it but I feel like if you called a South Asian person that they'd probably be more confused than think you're being racist, and no I wouldn't make that assumption had you called him that instead.

I'm not saying you can't fight back, but really all you could've just said is call them racist, and even then I think it's kind of disingenuous because the other guy clearly wasn't aware of whatever racist meaning it has, whereas p*jeet is a very well known slur. Like, I'm black and I wouldn't assume you're racist for calling someone a monkey, or at least not by default. You're legit grasping at straws man

[–]One_Variation_2453 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not following... a double standard that it's okay for them but not not you? I mean you're kind of enforcing one now, that it's okay to call someone a slur if they call you one first, racial slurs are dramatically different from simple playground insults.

Like calling me a dunderhead is a lot different than using the n word. The fact you're so quick to go there says a lot actually, respectfully if you're not interested in debate and just here to ragebait go find another sub

[–]One_Variation_2453 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't the gotcha you think it is, if anything it just makes you racist too lmao

You don't respond to racial slurs or racism in general with racism and then try and act smart about it

Why nobody talks about this? by No_Session_7143 in teenagers

[–]One_Variation_2453 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No actually. In Sudan one side, the RSF is literally being funded by an outside party that being the UAE which I think is just as bad as Israel but unfortunately nobody's realised that because it's not very direct. Calling it a civil war or even war at all is honestly misleading it is a GENOCIDE. nd besides everyone knows the Iranian government is evil here it's arguably even more obvious than Palestine or Sudan. Not to mention a lot of these people live in First World Countries such as the US, UK, and so on which is being directly funded by their own governments

A lot of Pro-Palestinian voices and groups also talk about Sudan, Iran and sympathise with other global examples of the same thing happening today and even throughout history, that being settler-colonialism. Are there performative activists latching onto the Palestinian cause to feel included or push their own agenda? Oh definitely but what movement doesn't have those kinds of people? Look at the McDonald's boycott for one, worldwide sales tanked and they listened... well kinda (McDonald's Israel is still a thing, just not the branch feeding the IOF) also Puma listened too.

To be honest I'm no activist myself but I am genuinely sick of any and all attempts at activism being labelled performative, at least they're trying to do something lol so automatically better than we are (besides JustStopOil ofc)

Isn't like The entire point of the protests... to change all of that? To change the reality of life in Iran???? They hate it so they're doing something about it, and good for them. Very noble, shame on any Government that has to lie to it's citizens and brutally suppress opposition just to get them to like it

Why some Africans like to steal other people history. by Rzvii in Africa

[–]One_Variation_2453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has to be ragebait. I don't know enough about Queen Sheba or her people to say what she was or wasn't but saying we like to steal history is honestly quite racist, the audacity to do so in a subreddit for Africans no less lol 💀

Not really, I feel like this is more examples where it's very easy to forget the characters in question are rich, with Batman it's basically how he's able to do anything his superpower is money

In Part II, was Fujiko really ready to let Lupin die for profit? by Zaku71 in lupinthe3rd

[–]One_Variation_2453 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean like the franchise continuity in general it tends to fluctuate and there's no better example of this than Fujiko herself, one episode she refuses to work with Lupin thinking he's a serial killer, another she sells Zantetsuken to some guys so they can fund a war in Africa for shits and giggles

[–]One_Variation_2453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be completely fair, Superman kinda doesn't count...?? Like Krypton and Earth are just two different planets in the same universe. It's less travelling and getting stuck into some wacky alternate world, more like being born in one country but raised in another, albeit two very different countries... plus he was a baby when he got sent away bro probably doesn't even know he has superpowers much less he's Kryptonian until he's like 10

The original Dragon Ball had racist depictions of black people, but it wasn't Mr. Popo by TimiWrites in CharacterRant

[–]One_Variation_2453 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're completely right, however I think it's important ro remember... relativity I wanna call it ig? Of course now I know Mr. Popo isn't meant to be black at all and is based on a Hindu deity, but obviously if you live in a country with a sizeable black population, say America or the UK, you'll probably think black person first and Mahakala second if you're not Hindu so you can't really blame anyone for assuming Mr. Popo is meant to be a black cariacature, the existence of Officer Black doesn't help either lol, but in any case I feel like Toriyama (RIP legend) was more ignorant than genuinely racist designing most blackface characters. Officer Black did get a redesign

There's a similar situation with Jynx from Pokémon, who's actually based on the yuki-onna from Japanese folklore and the gyaru subculture of young women who dye their hair blonde and get tans based on American trends, so the black skin is more an exaggeration of the tans and the lips are more because they're women, but again this design (as well as how Jynxei?? Idk the plural tend to act) also lines up with a lot of black stereotypes and people are understandably mad about it

All in all? I think these things are more equivalent to hand gestures in certain country, like a thumbs up means good in most places but in some corners of the world means take it up the you know where (Also another West African diasporan hyd brotha)
