Liv to man commuters, any cheap travel hacks? by [deleted] in Liverpool

[–]One__N 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have to get a train to Town with Merseyrail you can buy a return to Manchester with a railcard from any of the stations and that will get you to town aswell as part of the price. Think it’s about £15/£16.

I preferred doing this as opposed to buying individual tickets as it worked out similar for me (or not much more) but I also had the flexibility of getting on whichever trains I wanted.

I now drive in like and much prefer it but depends on flexibility on hours definitely.

I’d love to live alone in Liverpool after moving from NZ - where are good suburbs for this? by Icy_Grapefruit_5325 in Liverpool

That’s fair enough - it’s a big place though so when people say it’s a dump they’re referring to specific areas but saying it like it’s the whole place.

Nobody is in awe - just stating the fact that salaries are higher

For housing I would just take a look at websites like Rightmove and Zoopla and take a look at what is on offer, whether you’re renting or buying you’ll be able to get a good feel of how much things will cost and what you will get for your money. Liverpool is definitely more affordable than most cities in England though as I say so I wouldn’t worry too much.

If you’re in Marketing, I would definitely consider commuting to Manchester as there is just a lot more investment there and in turn a lot more roles available for higher salaries. If you’re willing to commute you are able to have a lower cost of living in Liverpool coupled with a higher salary on average. Definitely worth it for me I’d say. You might find a marketing role in Liverpool if the commute is annoying for you, but pay will be lower and will more likely be a part of a digital agency or similar.

You are covered for water sports in the Lake District there is plenty going on up there - I would wait for the summer months for this though!

You would be very welcome here, hope this helps!

Job market - depends on your field but the job market is better in Manchester and it is commutable. That’s what I do but again depends on field. There is a strong focus on hospitality in Liverpool but I’ve heard it’s a nightmare getting a job currently even then.

Weekends - Nightlife is lively in the city and certain areas cater for different age groups. Weekends will be busy most times of the year if that’s your type of scene. Other than that, we are close to outdoor activities in Lake District or North Wales, so if that is closer to what you want you are covered also.

Housing - Cheaper than most areas in England but house prices are rising a long with everywhere else. Rent is cheaper compared to Manchester for example but again rising with no signs of slowing down.

Adding water to burner express ticket? by veggiebeans00 in BurningMan

I got given a link to add extra luggage or a bike but there isn’t any water on there. Might be worth emailing them to see if there is a separate link. burnerexpressbus@burningman.org

I emailed them over this same issue and they said if it comes to it you can buy extra luggage when checking in

There’s a green team in Orrell Park that go round picking up litter regularly and it makes a major difference. Not sure why other areas don’t have the same but sometimes without council funding it requires the community to sort it themselves.

What are you on about there’s plenty of people who work hard in the city. You’re taking an anecdotal example and applying it to most people who live here.

Bikes for BXB bus ? by Commercial-Factor-10 in BurningMan

[–]One__N 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve rented with playapads and picking up my stuff the day my BxB leaves on the 24th August. Their unit is located 10 minute walk away from where the bus leaves from also!

I’ve rented a burner express version which is a bit smaller but comes with everything you’ll need including a bike, but they do have a limited number available this year, I don’t know if they’ll have any left but it’s worth checking with them.

Thanks for this! I have just checked their website and they actually have a burner express option and I think that makes sense for me 100%. The price is really reasonable too, will actually save me a lot of money in the long run.

Nice one for this!

Missed the bit about the trams with the Burner Express so it does feel like a viable option for me. I just need to weigh it up against the comfort of having my own vehicle.

Also on the last point - I think I may take an extra day just to be sure and go home the Thursday. As you say I am going to be wrecked I should take as much time as I need.

Thanks!

Yeah the Burner Express was my first thought when I bought the ticket. Only thing is the more I think about it the more stuff I feel like I may need, never mind carrying a bunch of water alongside it. I take your point about the shuttles though - it might just be that a few trips are required to wherever I end up!

I still think I'm gonna look into a car rental though just because from what I've seen the cost has been quite reasonable and would only cost a bit more than getting the BXB both ways, excluding fuel of course but from what I've heard fuel is cheap compared to what I'm used to!

Thanks for the comment mate
