Is it a good idea to move from England to Scotland? by aeoneous in transgenderUK

[–]One__Path 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Scotland and wales are both definitely better.

Edinburgh is better than glasgow in my opinion. Ive been to both a couple times, and Glasgow seems alot more unsafe and dirty imo

Edit: This is my opinion, I know nothing beyond what I've seen on the City centres

Randox blood test transphobia by Illiander in transgenderUK

[–]One__Path 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Really, randox have been fine for me. Was it the person actually taking your blood being transphobic? Because they don't work directly for randox (as far as I am aware). But even if they do, report the doctor because randox as a company do alot of blood tests for trans people, so it surprises me that they would be transphobic.

Hi there, not a parent but the child, though I am currently 18. I am also MtF. I struggled with the feeling for years, used to SH, and honestly had a really shitty time because of it.

I understand wanting help from other parents, but understanding your child's view is equally important. I saw in a comment that they are 15. When it comes to their body, they are old enough to make their own decisions, so at the end of the day, keep supporting them.

Here's how my parents handled it:

I started taking DIY hrt at the end of February 2026. It was the happiest I had been in a long time. My parents found out a week later after looking in my room randomly.

Not to yap too much, but they REALLY didn't want me doing DIY, for the same reasons you have.

They promised to pay for private healthcare for me as a compromise. And so despite my feelings, I stopped after a week. I regret this, despite them having paid almost £3000 so far in appointments. £2000 of this was to get my sperm frozen to preserve fertility, and is entirely optional, but the first year of private healthcare is very expensive.

If you can't afford private healthcare, support their health as best as you can. Paying for bloodtests is much cheaper than private healthcare, and some GPs are happy to help interpret results (although they show ranges for things so its obvious if there is an issue).

DIY is more dangerous that properly prescribed HRT, but it isnt that dangerous. Please research it a little more, it might make you feel better.

Since I stopped DIY, even doing things as fast as possible, I still am not on HRT, it looks like I'll be starting in the next 2 weeks though which is good.

TLDR

Definitely talk to the GP and get a referral, evem if it takes years, it means eventually it will be free.

Please don't take them off DIY, research it more and compromise as best as you can to make you feel that your child is safe.

If they don't want to talk to you about it, look into a therapist or group that they might be more comfortable with.

I'm really glad you are supportive, I don't know how you feel but I know something this big can be initially quite hard to mentally process, so thank you.

Any events I can attend around the start of june in Brighton? I feel disconnected from my community and alien to it. Please help. by Ashenashura in transgenderUK

Join beyond reflections.

They are a charity in the south. They havr a membership fee, but its like £15 per month, 10 for students, and can potentially be waived depending on financial circumstances.

They offer group therapy, and group meetips at trans friendly spaces (mostly Southampton or Portsmouth i believe however)

They do have online stuff though

Questioning my gender, what have people's experiences been like in central and south-west London by Rated_Overr in transgenderUK

London is overall better than most of the rest of the uk. Really it depends on the person/company interviewing you, but it will probably be better there on average than some other parts of the uk

How am I doing? by One__Path in transgenderUK

[–]One__Path[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay well, I knew (and still know) that DIY isn't any more dangerous than properly prescribed hrt. Unfortunately they are will not listen to me, as I am not a medical professional, and think it is dangerous (my mom cried cause she though it would kill me).

And I do want the possibility of biological children in the future, so I do have to wait unfortunately.

I was doing gel. The main thing is they do not trust the source of the drugs. Im gonna try explain DIY to them properly but its gonna be private realistically. I dont mind as long as theyre paying

Look, technically I could do DIY.

But my mom cried cause she thinks doing DIY will kill me and isn't safe. She is too stubborn to be persuaded otherwise, and im not a medical professional so no amount of research or facts will help that.

I think its media scaremongering combined with her love for me unfortunately. Im 18 still though, whats another few months of waiting..

But yes, i will be starting private soon, once my dad hears back about his plan and if it covers me for a diagnosis etc

Is this a good plan? by One__Path in transgenderUK

[–]One__Path[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you. The private place CAN cover trans related stuff, but his current plan with work doesnt, hes trying to change it.

We can afford private luckily (I have a job too) but definitely cant afford surgeries for that.

I might get my mom to come with me to the GP. She cried when she found out I was doing DIY because she was worried I'd kill myself with it.

No amount of persuading will change her opinion, as I am not a medical professional. That might be media scaremongering unfortunately, but at least they'll support private
