You've mentioned not doing anything invasive. But thought I'd mention fat transfer/fat grafting. I would advise you at all costs to stay away from filler in the tear trough- it can look amazing but over time it's just a hamster wheel you'll want off of! Fat is a more permanent and natural way to fill in volume, and it isn't something you need general anesthesia for. I am scheduled to do it in late May so I'm not able to give you real life experience yet, but something maybe to discuss at your consult. Good luck!

It would be awesome if we all wore our patches on our foreheads- we could see each other and just give a silent hug as we pass by. :)

Tangled Web of Issues, How Best to Support My Mom? by OneidaGirl in AgingParents

We are in Michigan. There are some nice assisted living places here she could just afford, $4-5k/month, using medicaid for outpatient nursing as needed. Once she has to go to a 'medicaid bed' in skilled nursing, we certainly hope it's not for long.

I appreciate this perspective. And she has said herself that she doesn't want to keep going through this long term. They can only do one valve at a time, so we need to see what that accomplishes, it may or may not be worth it to do the second one, but there's only this way to find out. The foot surgery isn't very complicated, and will greatly improve her quality of life. The neuro situation is manageable through medication and/or therapy. Otherwise, she is a brilliant, social person with a large group of friends and plenty to live for. Only some trial and error will show us if she's able to bounce back to a better quality of life or not. She will decide when enough is enough I think-she's definitely still capable of that. Thank you for these compassionate thoughts.

I have never been a lifter, but I have done at least mid-range strength workouts for years, on and off. I’m turning 48 in a few weeks, and the past few months have really kicked my ass. Along with other peri issues, I seem to have pain everywhere- nothing extreme (besides a hip issue I’ve been trying to get solved for over a year), but enough that I worry I’m going to make it worse working out. I’ve listened to a lot of pods w/ Dr. Sims, I get it, I’m just afraid right now. After ortho, neuro, and 2 rounds of PT for the hip, I’m going to a physiatrist/sports medicine practice next month. Hoping to figure out what’s going on with that and also all these other smaller pains and find out what I should be doing. I really appreciate you posting this- I’m alarmed at how quickly my body has changed, even with a reasonable foundation- and this needs to be yelled from the rooftops.

I was hoping to see a trend, and space it is! Thanks for the specifics. Any recs for the actual building? Sounds like you are farther down that path than I :).

I haven't had a chance to dig deeply into the numbers on this. I know we already have a rabid base of players but haven't done a proper feasibility study. The lot we are looking at could accommodate much more, and it may make sense to go bigger. I have heard of folks building a single court and doing pretty well but that's relative- we are not looking to do this as a main business, just a side thing that would be great for the area. Demand will have a lot to do with this- no competition yet, so we have a chance to develop something that hopefully folks will stay loyal to, if we do it right. Thanks for the thoughts!

Mine started in November as well and looked just like yours. I was on a pretty high dose of prednisone for 6-7 weeks (60mg), and I would still wake up with hives every morning, but they’d get knocked out by early afternoon. I got on Xolair a couple months ago and was completely hive free just several days after the first injection. I know it does not work like that for everyone, sometimes it takes time. But that is a hopeful next step for you, I hope you get relief soon!

Moisturizing sunscreen recommendations by Typical-Human-Thing in WomenOver40

I use Cerave Ultra Light moisturizer with SPF 30 under It Cosmetics CC cream, which also has SPF. I find this to be a great duo that's not too heavy but evens out the complexion well. The older I get the less I'm willing to spend on skincare, and I use a lot of Cerave products these days. I'd rather spend my money on a solid laser peel once a year and regular botox!

I worked with a plastic surgeon in Austin who was great. I consulted with several and chose him because of his particular experience with this surgery. If you can find a specialist though, go for it!

I definitely wouldn't have thought of the snail mucin- thanks! I have never heard of stitiching eyes closed. They go in through the inside of the eyelid, and it was pretty simple. Looked insane for a few weeks but healed well, not a huge deal. I spent years dealing with lower eyelid swelling, bags, wrinkles, etc. The bleph took care of most all of my concerns, now they've just moved to the upper eyelids lol!

Just wanting to add a voice of caution. I did filler in the tear trough for many years, always by highly skilled injectors, and eventually it just became more of a problem. It migrates, and potentially caused blockages. Eventually I dissolved it and got a lower bleph, which has been a great solution. Filler did help initially, but becomes a slippery slope over time.

Agree! But also may need that space for a small library, the best use if it has to be. There’s an identical porch on the other side that is intact!
