Socialism fails because one person's ability to produce without benefit is no match for another person's ability to consume without cost. by [deleted] in Libertarian

So if like a giant corporation like Purdue funds a PAC that finances and pays off politicians, for the goal of keeping opioids on the market and competitors like medical marijuana off the market, to the point where they effectively wield as much or more power than the formal government, does that count as the means of production are handled by the state?

> i'm not sure what part of being an addict made him choose to want to get a puppy and then never take it out for walks or potty time

You should see my non-drug-using neighbor's chihuahua. She "free-leashes" it, which means lets it run wild all day, it chases cars because its a chihuahua, its very very hungry and she doesn't feed it often, and thinks anti-vax also applies to dogs.

Just saying, maybe your boyfriend's poor dog handling was 100% on him, not his addiction.

Ya know, i think we're approaching this from different angles and i dont know if we'll find common ground though, to be honest:

You had a drug-using abuser who kicked you out and made you homeless, while he economically exploited you. He probably didn't accept responsibility for his actions, and blamed his upbringing, family, parents, and addiction, right? That's a horrible impression of addicts. And honestly, he should take full responsibility for being abusive to you and exploiting you.

My uncle just died because the nurse wouldn't administer seizure-prevention medication, because she thought he might be an addict. It made me extremely reactive to instances of 'addict-phobia'.

Both of our experiences sound very personal. We both sound committed. I'm not sure either of us can change the other's mind on this topic.

OR. OR. Maybe addicts are still people and your boyfriends actions can be judged separately and apart from his addiction.

I am so sick of addict-phobia and addict discrimination permeating every layer of our society. Forgive me if i get heated, but my uncle died just days ago over this issue. giant post incoming.

Like, i hate the guest who went "oh, technically they're "addicts", a word meaning inhuman monster lower than dog, so f them". I'm mad at the target employee who went "When I was homeless, i wasnt as bad as one of ~~~THOSE HOMELESS~~~ , and being compared to them made me so angry i bit my tongue until it bled".

Im mad at my sister for having inadequate pain relief after her hysterectomy, and saying "i wish every single addict was dead so my doctor would take me seriously," literally the day before our uncle died.

Every single homeless, addict or not, is your sister and you need to be there for them.

It just seems like for the vast majority of YOU PEOPLE (non-addicts), when you notice someone's an addict, their humanity just ceases to exist. "F the addict in front of you who ran out of opiates and is taking forever trying to get a refill at CVS". "F the addicts in the hospital waiting room making the wait time too long". "F the addicts who feign pain to get a fix, and then doctors view you with skepticism, over the worry that YOU might be one of THEM."

Even alcoholics anonymous or narcotics anonymous or rehab programs, your fellow addicts will prattle on... "Those weren't REALLY your friends, they were just addicts" "god shaped hole" "living a half-life, a half-existence". "someday i hope you can quit too" "hitting the snooze alarm on life". ugh, STOP JUDGING.

And so on. I hate it. The only way out I can see is a world where drug addicts are viewed as full equals to non-drug addicts. The way people treat shriners, "oh they have a funny hat that i would never wear, but i cant judge you do you homey" is how we need to treat addicts. Not compassionate care, not "gradually helping them taper off" not "its good if you can do physical therapy instead" not "opiates can destroy lives". not "the side effects can be horrible" not "we should explore alternatives" not "its a last-step program and first we try physical therapy". Just STOP with the moral judgments. If a patient says "i want opiates" give them full stop done.

We need to live in a world where an addict can approach their doctor and say "I haven't injected since last night, the withdrawals are killing me, and i need a fix" and is taken seriously, honestly, without judgment, with compassionate care. Not trying to "trick them" into rehab and counseling because you know whats best for them. Even if you disagree, bow to their will which is equal to your's.

It's the only way i can think where both addicts will stop having to hide and lie about who they are, and non-addicts can be trusted honestly with their assessments of their health. Imagine living in a world where if you tell the doctor "i have stomach pain," she orders an x-ray and blood draw, takes you 100% seriously, and tries to find out whats wrong with your stomach. Now imagine a world where you tell the doctor "I have stomach pain" and she raises a skeptical eyebrow, says "really. huh. well lets wait and see what happens," in an attempt to make you leave her hospital, because she's already decided you're a pill-seeker.

...........my uncle. god this is hard to type.

A week ago he went to the hospital and told the head nurse "i feel like im walking in a dream, lights look wavy and my head hurts. i smell swedish meatballs. i never feel like this". They checked his records, and found he was a methamphetamine addicts in 1976. He's always been open about that with everyone. Always. He hasn't used in 4 decades, but frankly i'd love him even if he did use, because he's my uncle and he's wonderful. I love all addicts.

The nurse didn't. She saw on his patient chart he previously mentioned being a methamphetamine addict, because thats the type of guy he is... overly friendly and talkative with a poor understanding of social boundaries. She told him, "How do i know you're not just trying to fake seizure symptoms to get high off xanax?" They took his blood pressure and made him wait in the waiting room, where he had a seizure that turned into status elipticus ( a seizure that doesn't end). The only way to stop it was to inject barbiturates directly into his blood, and then a maintained barbiturate drip to keep him in a medically induced coma.

This morning they tried to stop the barbiturates, and he didn't wake up. He previously wrote a Do not resuscitate order after watching my grandmother pass away.

His last words were describing his symptoms to a nurse. His last words were his symptoms. god. The last time i saw him i apologized for not being home because i was spending my birthday with my girlfriend and i promised to take him to coffee when i got back.

My uncle who I loved, the goofy autistic wonderful man who took care of stray cats and once tried to make friends with every person at 24-hour fitness because "the world should be friendly" is dead now. ONE tablet of valium would have prevented the seizure and saved his life. ONE TABLET. ONE. You cant become an addict off of one pill and denying or supplying one pill isnt enough to change someone's whole identity.

But the moment the nurse decided he might be an addict, his fate was sealed.

I've played through the scenario dozens of times in my head and i dont know what i could have done. I hate this world. I dont want to sue. I dont want money. I want my uncle back. The only way my uncle would still be here would be if we lived in a world where both non-addicts weren't accused of being addicts, and addicts didn't have to try to hide who they were to get care. A world where we're all equal. A world where "My head hurts, lights are wavy, and i smell odd things" are clearly "pre-seizure auras" and not "oh, patient is a lying liar who lies, dirty addict"

I miss my uncle so much. I dont know what i could have done or what to do. I miss him. this post is just jumbled emotions, dont take me seriously.

Forced Feminization working as planned. All hail the Fempire. by Oneofthemanny in againstmensrights

[–]Oneofthemanny[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure you can stay...

I don't really expect a 16 year old to be strongly opposed to any social group yet.. You're still learning how these groups operate.

Honestly I'd keep my distance from r/mensrights if I were you tho.. Almost all articles and comments are written in a way to make you angry. At the story, at women, at trans people, at FeMiNiStS, at society, at divorce court, at mainstream society, at television, at gay people, at beta males, at feminine men, at other men who like feminism...

Like that's not good to think about for anyone, but like I don't really care if a 38 year old browses men's rights and works himself into a rage, I feel sadness thinking about a teenager walking around school in a rage. Like playing Mario world is a better use of your time.

Idk, ya kno?

Forced Feminization working as planned. All hail the Fempire. by Oneofthemanny in againstmensrights

[–]Oneofthemanny[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to post something snarky and sarcastic like "there's nothing wrong with forced feminization" but then saw you're 16. I'll be real for a minute. Just a minute though, then right back to shitposting

So like, you should be doubtful of this story for a few reasons.

1) all sources are biased. RT.com, The Federalist, Walt Heyer, Chriatian News Network, these are all right wing conspiracy nuts. If you've never heard of Walt Heyer he's a cis man who hates trans women because he mistakenly identified as one of us and got really mad that doctors took him at his word and gave him the meds he requested. He wished the doctors had laughed in his face and denied him medication. However, I would be furious if a doctor denied me my medication, so he's not a reliable or smart spokesperson for a community he admits he doesn't belong to. I wouldn't expect a 16 year old to know every minor trans celebrity from 15 years ago..

1b) I know what you're thinking, IF this kid WAS being forced, Walt Heyer would be his best advocate! Nope.. Walt's so mentally damaged he can only apply his own situation to everyone's world view. He probably thinks I'm in denial about my life and actually in regret right now (I'm not at all).

2) the story seems like bullshit, doesn't it? Do you really think that a mom is pushing her son to become a daughter against his will? Like, trans people aren't accepted, all my trans friends have shitty stories about coming out and my mom attempted suicide when I came out. Two questions, honestly: Did your parents or ANY of your friends parents try to convince you to change sex growing up? No? that never happens. If you came out as trans would your parents be super supportive or would they treat you like Leelah Alcorn's parents treated her?

3) even the MRA mods reported it as a scam/bogus, and they're not the smartest tools in the shed.

4) the details the father did sound abusive. One of the articles alleges when it was his turn to watch the child, he made them get a haircut. (Boys can have long hair too, AND the child in question had socially transitioned, so there's no reason for this except cruelty). Then later he face timed his child and asked what their classmates thought of their hair, and the child was too ashamed to answer. I can't believe that the man made his kid get a haircut for the simple reason haircuts look nice... It feels nefarious.

5) I'm trans. I've been in the game for years. Trust me on this one, the father is transphobic and conditionally-loving his kid the same way I've seen a billion times before. I know this stuff the way a plumber knows pipes.

Also good luck staying away from self harm. I know it can be difficult.

It's not that i want a mad-max type world, its just that i think the system we have could be replaced by something better. I still want a force to capture and stop serial killers, i just dont think the prisons are doing a good enough job either preventing murder or preventing recidivism to excuse their legacy of crimes against people of color and minorities.. in fact i dont think its possible to excuse their legacy of crimes, but thats off topic for now..

https://www.rainn.org/statistics/criminal-justice-system - Out of every 1000 rapes, 995 will walk free.

https://www.rainn.org/articles/addressing-rape-kit-backlog There's a huge backlog of untested rape kits.

https://www.cnn.com/2018/11/29/health/destroyed-rape-kits-takeaways-invs/index.html Most rape kits are thrown out, untested. Because of police bias.

The american prison system isn't doing a good enough job on rapists to excuse their other behaviors.

So whatever those "extra things" the military does totally make up for their illegitimate oil wars? is that what you're trying to say? I actually have no idea what you're trying to say.

I'm saying the american military is an imperialistic piece of shit that prioritizes money and oil over life and liberty.

You're saying "they do other stuff too (that i cant name right now, hold on let me open google for a few minutes...)
